Visit Tra Su forest, a sanctuary for a wide variety of colourful birds, animals and plants and visit the village of Ba Chuc, the location of a forgotten and tragic story from the Khmer Rouge period in neighbouring Cambodia.

Depart from Chau Doc and travel through the beautiful countryside to Ba Chuc, a small village with a sad history. A lotus shaped memorial pays homage to the 3,157 villagers that were massacred here by the Khmer Rouge in April 1978.

In a glass enclosure many of the remaining skulls and bones can be seen, grouped by age and gender.

The nearby Phi Lai Pagoda is the site of many of the killings, and a collection of black and white photos taken at that time recalls these horrific days.

Continue to Tra Su Forest located 25km northeast of the Mekong River. The forest and wetlands provide a sanctuary for a wide variety of colourful birds, animals and plants, and is rapidly gaining an international reputation as a destination for ecological and scientific research tours.

Explore the picturesque waterways by motorboat and rowing boat to see the mangroves and the wetland birds.

Back on land, climb the bird watching tower for far-reaching views over the unique forest and surrounding mountains.

After a journey through Ben Luc and Tan An, proceed to Ben Tre to take a boat trip on the Mekong River to Vam Xep Canal where local handicrafts and coconut sweets are produced.

Enjoy fresh seasonal fruits, a performance of traditional songs, and observe local life. Take a short ride on a horse carriage to a typical local house to taste some homemade honey-tea.

Proceed by sampan through the small canals to observe the daily life of local people along the riverbanks with some stops for a leisurely stroll.

Delve deep in to the heart of southern Vietnam and explore the Mekong Delta on two wheels. Traveling by bike, you’ll get a unique perspective on this scenic area as you witness first-hand the daily lives of the region's inhabitants.

Departure from Saigon at around 8 am and transfer by vehicle to the town of Cai Lay to avoid the teeming traffic. Your cycling adventure begins with a 1.5-hour ride through quiet back roads to Cai Be. 

Cycle 30 km exploring the myriad of orchards, rice fields, tiny villages, canals and local temples.

Rest and refuel as you enjoy a delicious lunch of Mekong specialties on a small Mekong island before continuing pedalling to a local garden home. Their typical Mekong Delta Vietnamese house has airy rooms surrounded by dirt paths, which are perfect for exploring by bike!

The rest of the afternoon is free to bike the dirt paths surrounding the local home. In the late afternoon return to Saigon by vehicle.
