This comprehensive 17 day, 15 night Borneo wildlife journey covers both Sarawak and Sabah — two of the most rewarding regions in Malaysian Borneo — and includes three orangutan encounters, river safaris on the Kinabatangan, two national parks and a stunning island finale on Gaya Island.

Begin with two nights in Kuching, the charming colonial capital of Sarawak, with a full day excursion to Bako National Park — the best place on earth to see the rare proboscis monkey in its natural habitat.

From Kuching, head deep into the interior of Sarawak for two nights at a remote jungle lodge in Batang Ai National Park. Trek through pristine rainforest, visit an Iban longhouse community and experience a side of Borneo that very few travellers reach. Return to Kuching for one final night and a morning visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre.

Fly north to Sabah for a full day at Mount Kinabalu National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — before heading east to Sandakan for visits to the world-famous Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre.

Three nights at Sukau Rainforest Lodge on the Kinabatangan River follow — Borneo's premier wildlife corridor for proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, hornbills and occasionally wild orangutans moving through the riverine forest.

Two nights at Tabin Wildlife Reserve complete the wildlife section — one of Sabah's largest protected rainforest areas, with night safaris, a mud volcano salt lick and exceptional birdlife.

On the Danum Valley Edition of this itinerary, Tabin Wildlife Reserve is replaced by two nights at the outstanding Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley — old growth rainforest of exceptional quality and one of the finest wildlife lodges in Southeast Asia.
