Half Day Hoi An Tour

Enjoy a half day walking tour of Hoi An, one of the most interesting and picturesque towns in Vietnam. See the highlights of Hoi An in a morning tour, visiting the most interesting temples and sights.

The walking tour will include five of the sites below:

Dating back to 1653, Quan Cong Temple is one of the most interesting of the Chinese temples in Hoi An.

Phuoc Kien Pagoda is a Chinese pagoda built around 1690 and typical of the Chinese 'clans' that were established in the Hoi An area. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess of the Sea and Protector of Sailors and Fishermen.

The Japanese Covered Bridge is Hoi An's most famous and revered sight, dating back to 1593 and built by the Japanese community of Hoi An to link the town with the Chinese quarters across the stream.

The Tran Family Chapel is around 200 years old and reflects the influence of Chinese and Japanese styles.

Sa Huynh Museum near the Japanese Covered Bridge contains exhibitions from the earliest period of Hoi An's history.

Phung Hung House has been occupied by the same family for eight generations and combines Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese styles.

Quang Dong Pagoda was open to all Chinese traders or seamen and is dedicated to Thien Hau. It is a small Chinese style temple with a lintel gate, a rockery courtyard and lucky animals depicted in statuary.

Street Food Tasting Tour

This street food tasting tour of Hoi An is an entertaining and informative way to see a different side of Hoi An through its food. Visit a local market off the tourist map then sit down to sample an astounding 36 local delicacies bought directly from the vendors.

Sample sweet and savoury; noodles, sticky rice, a myriad of spring rolls, tropical fruits and dishes only found in Hoi An.

Pick up from your hotel and continue to the starting point of the street food tour. Start at a colourful and friendly ‘wet market’ where you’ll get the chance to meet and chat with stallholders to learn more on the huge choice of ingredients on sale.

Everything from silk worms, a huge variety of fresh fragrant herbs and vegetables to the meat and fish sections will be seen.  Leaving the market continue along both high streets and back streets, discovering out-of-the-way producers and street vendors making and selling a wide variety of exotic foodstuff.

Your final destination of the morning will be a comfortable restaurant where the tasting session will begin. A wide selection of local delicacies bought directly from the vendors will be tried. Learn the names and meanings of different local dishes as well as the main ingredients and how they should be eaten.

This tasting session will give you a deeper understanding of Vietnamese cuisine and the purpose of the tour is to give an opportunity to try the huge variety of foods of the local Hoi An people – the benefit also goes back to the vendors as all dishes are bought directly from them.

This is a shared tour but can be done on a private basis.

Morning Glory Cooking Class

The Morning Glory cooking school has earned well-deserved praise over the years for its classes. Owner and founder Ms Trinh Diem Vy is a third generation chef and native of Hoi An and has created diverse cooking class programs to suit all levels.

Ms Vy's zeal for recreating street food favourites in the Morning Glory cooking school is driven by a personal desire to keep local recipes alive.

There are two levels of class. A Beginners/intermediate and an Advanced Class

Beginners & Intermediate

Become more familiar with the art of Vietnamese cooking with a start to finish cooking course. This 4-hour tour combines a market tour, an overview of ingredients common in Vietnamese food, and a hands-on cooking class that ends with each participant making their own multi course meal.

It’s a great way to see all the nooks and crannies of a Vietnamese market and understand the secrets behind Vietnamese cooking. This is perfect for beginners or intermediate levels with two options offered.

The morning begins with a 1-hour tour of Hoi An’s food market where you will learn how to select the freshest ingredients. Return to Morning Glory, where a lovely air-conditioned room with individual cooking stations is used for the cooking class.

Here each dish is made step by step as you follow along. The staff are on hand to offer additional assistance for beginners or those who might need some extra help.

The class not only covers cooking techniques, but also herbal remedies, and tricks to using Vietnamese vegetable graters and knives. All efforts are rewarded with the lunch that you have made for yourself!

Advanced Cooking Class

This course is for experienced cooks or those who have a passion for all of the nuances in the art of Vietnamese cooking. Add to your skills through this 6-hour class that reviews menu design, challenges of finding all the fresh ingredients from the market, and culinary techniques.

This class includes personalized instruction by chef and experienced restaurant owner Ms Trinh Diem Vy. Take a culinary journey with Ms. Vy as she explains the history and philosophy behind the art of Vietnamese cooking. Topics will cover how to create a menu that is sensitive to seasonal availability of fresh ingredients and challenges of timing the preparation for up to 8 dishes at once.

There is a surcharge applicable for the Advanced Cooking Class - £33 per person.

Full Day Tour & Cruise

The exquisitely preserved merchant town of Hoi An was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. Its colourful shop houses and temples reflect a diverse heritage, dating back to the 16th and 17th century, when it was a major port.

Today it is a thriving centre of traditional crafts and a shopper’s paradise, best explored on foot.

Wander through the cobbled streets, past low tile-roofed buildings, the bustling central Market and the small Harbour where colourfully painted boats are moored.

The walking tour will include visits to a Private House, where members of the same family have lived continuously for centuries in a traditional setting; to one of the Family Chapels built by prominent merchant or official families as centres for ancestor worship; and to a typical Chinese-Style Pagoda or Assembly Hall.

Finally, continue to the famous Japanese Covered Bridge, first constructed in 1593 by the Japanese community of Hoi An to link the town with the Chinese quarters across the stream.

In the afternoon, board a local boat and cruise down the Thu Bon River, enjoying the unspoiled countryside and stopping to visit a Pottery Village and a Woodcarving Village before returning to Hoi An harbour.
