The Mekong is one of Asia's great river journeys — flowing from the mountains of Tibet through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam before reaching the South China Sea.
Most classic Mekong cruises travel between Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, passing floating villages, riverside temples and landscapes that have changed very little in generations. But there are also quieter and lesser-known journeys further north through Laos, as well as cruises on Vietnam's remote Red River.
We work with the best cruise operators across the region and can help you choose the route, pace and style that suits you best.
Popular river cruise routes
- Classic Mekong — Vietnam and Cambodia, usually between Saigon, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. The most popular and well-established route.
- Laos Mekong — quieter and more adventurous, travelling through some of the least-visited landscapes in Southeast Asia.
- Red River — a little-visited route through northern Vietnam, pioneered by Pandaw and quite different in character to the main Mekong.
Our preferred cruise operators
Pandaw
Beautifully designed small ships with teak decks and brass fittings. Particularly good for more unusual itineraries, including Laos and Vietnam's little-visited Red River.
AMA Waterways
Larger, comfortable vessels with polished service and well-planned itineraries. A good choice for those wanting a slightly more conventional river cruise experience on the lower Mekong.
Heritage Line — Jayavarman & Jahan
Among the most refined ships on the river, with fewer passengers, generous cabins and a quieter atmosphere. Often our preferred choice for couples looking for a more relaxed experience.
Aqua Mekong
The most luxurious option on the Mekong, with just 20 suites, exceptional guiding and a notably high level of service throughout.
