Eight authentic and antique Malay style stilted houses make up the Bon Ton Langkawi, a luxurious and homely boutique resort in Langkawi.
Located 10 minutes from Langkawi Airport and 5 minutes drive from the main beach of Pantai Cenang, the Bon Ton Langkawi is convenient yet secluded and offers a totally original experience – authentic and without pretence.
Built within the grounds of a 100-year old coconut plantation, the Bon Ton's villas are set around a small pool and Jacuzzi and front onto a serene water-lily lagoon.
Each of the Bon Ton’s villas is unique and has a character of its own, each house lovingly restored and sensitively furnished with antique wood furniture and Malay wall hangings and artefacts.
The Bon Ton has one of the best restaurants on Langkawi and there are a couple of great places to eat very close by. Cocktails on the deck watching the sunset over the lagoon is a favoured pastime at the Bon Ton, where time seems to slow down.
In addition, the Bon Ton is one of the best ‘value for money’ resorts on Langkawi.
What's so Special?
The most authentically Malay hotel in Langkawi, the Bon Ton Langkawi isn't your typical ‘resort’ experience but is all the more special because of it. The antique villas are spacious and airy with large verandas and tasteful décor and furnishings.
Breakfast on your terrace overlooking the lagoon is such a peaceful experience and the sunsets are magic.
The resort has quite a few cushion-covered corners to lounge around on and make friends with the local wildlife (there are several very friendly house cats).
Bear in Mind
The Bon Ton Langkawi isn't on the beach but is set beside a pretty lagoon in a coconut plantation - the magical setting more than makes up for the absence of beach which is nevertheless easily accessible (Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah are about a mile away, so a long walk or courtesy shuttle).
There are one or two cats around (nice, clean and friendly cats!) as Narelle, the owner of the Bon Ton also runs an animal sanctuary. The cats aren’t an annoyance unless you happen to be allergic to cats.
Blue Ginger Villa
Blue Ginger has the feel of a simple antique beach cottage with its white washed internal walls, but also has a charm of its own, especially on opening the door on to the private sun deck and outdoor bath tub. This 80-year old Malay house is centrally supported from a round post shaped from a tree trunk.
Black Coral Villa
A 100-year old Malay Nobleman’s house with intricate carvings made for natural ventilation. The windows are positioned at a lower level in line with the eye of guests sitting on the floor. Black Coral is the most dramatic house with dark wood contrasted by white furnishings.
White Frangipani Villa
This 80-year old typical Malay house with a main reception area has a raised sleeping area, which was originally for the whole family, and a kitchen space with a link passage to the dressing room and bathroom.
Simple in form this villa is interesting because of the different rooms and space. The Villa faces the pool and the setting sun. The shower is over the floorboards in the bathroom and there is a gorgeous outdoor bathtub.
Cahaya Villa
Formerly a head of the village residence, this spacious 100-year old Malay house has been recently renovated. It now has a large main bedroom, with King-size bed, and a separate living room, with three daybeds that easily convert to a second bedroom. Two separate entrances and two bathrooms make this the perfect house for sharing with family or friends.
Yellow Orchid Villa
This simple 60-year old Malay house was originally a fisherman’s house but has now been transformed into a colourful summerhouse. The front has an open balcony and at the back is a secluded open-air bathroom and sun deck during the day. By night enjoy a soak in the bath gazing at the stars. Yellow Orchid is the most secluded and private of Bon Ton’s Villas.
Silk Villa
At 120 years old, Silk Villa is very grand and charming with old plantation style shutters and intricate carvings. With two queen beds in one room and two single beds in another room, it is the ideal house for a family.
Laguna Villa
The 120-year old Laguna villa, very stately in feel, has sweeping lagoon views even from the Chinese style wooden bathtub for two. A large balcony at the entrance offers the ideal spot for sunset cocktails. This is one of the larger villas.
Palm Villa
This 120-year old house sits very majestic and picturesque beside the pool. Beautiful carved panels above the windows make Palm Villa a treat to the eye. The neighbouring house Laguna is its twin in size and layout. Both have extra large bedroom and bathrooms.

Breakfast (fresh fruit, bread, cakes, yoghurt) is brought to the fridge the night before, meaning guests can dine at leisure in the morning.
Nam Restaurant
An exotic fusion of western and eastern gourmet cuisine with Asian spices means a variety of tastes for everyone. The Nam is regarded as one of the best restaurants on Langkawi - a special experience in a charming location overlooking the lagoon. Rick Stein, no less is a fan.
Chin Chin
Chin Chin is the Bon Ton’s bar and lounge, set in a converted Chinese shop-house, full of atmosphere and antiques, with cocktails at very reasonable prices. The liqueur-flavoured coffees are well recommended. Chin Chin is also stocked with a fantastic selection of wines (Langkawi is a Duty Free island).

Artist in Residence
The Artist in Residence Programme aims to support local artists by providing them with a place to work and gallery to exhibit their works.
One antique Malay villa has been set aside for the artist in residence to stay for a two month period. A permanent studio space has been allocated and two gallery areas for exhibition.
