Take a morning drive to Gayang Village, to discover the lifestyle of the Bajau (one of Sabah indigenous ethnic groups) also known as the sea gypsies. This is a great excursion to discover something of the local culture.

On reaching the village, light refreshment are served before embarking the river to see the houses of the Bajau's. Take part in crab catching by setting traps in the Bajau way. On the return trip, collect the traps and inspect the catch.

Observe the vegetation of the mangrove, which provides not only shelter but also protection against any strong winds and tides. Stilt houses and also fish traps can be seen along the riverbanks.

On return back to the jetty, see a demonstration of batik painting. Try your skills before returning back to your hotel.

Depart from the hotel around 7 am for the 3-hour drive to Poring Hot Springs. Stop en-route at Nabalu village to try some local fruit or to browse for local handicrafts.

Poring Hotsprings has a canopy walkway 100 feet above the forest floor, which is a great place from which to view the jungle and try to spot wildlife.

Also take a dip in one of the soothing, hot mineral springs set in beautifully landscaped gardens.

Afterwards head to the World Heritage designated Kinabalu Park. Explore the mountain gardens, home to many species of orchids, pitcher plants, birds, insects and butterflies with your guide before returning to Kota Kinabalu in the late afternoon.

This afternoon trip offers the chance to see Proboscis Monkeys and other wildlife in the Garama-Klias Wetlands at dusk, when the wildlife is at its most active. Also see amazing fireflies.

Set off in the early afternoon, passing through padi fields, small kampungs and oil palm plantations on to the Garama-Klias Wetlands, some 25 km south of Beaufort, a beautiful environment of rivers, mangrove forest and sago palms.

This is home to the unique proboscis monkey, found only in Borneo. In the late afternoon, cruise in a small open boat past the mangroves, where groups of these amazing animals make their way to the riverbank before settling down for the evening.

This is a wonderful opportunity to watch these animals in the wild as dusk falls.

On return, witness the glittering fireflies on the nearby trees. Dinner is provided, before the return road trip back to Kota Kinabalu.
