Bali - Jimbaran

Picturesque Jimbaran Bay is a sweeping expanse of sand fronted by a handful of luxury resorts and villas. Jimbaran is still very much a fishing village and Jimbaran Bay is famous for its seafood restaurants which are set up on the beach every night.

Kayumanis, Puri Jimbaran and Jamahal are some of the best boutique resorts in Bali, great options for a romantic Bali holiday or honeymoon. Jimbaran has one of the best beaches in Bali and a calm stretch of reef protected sea.

Jimbaran's boutique resorts are ideal for those looking for a laid back and luxurious Bali beach holiday.

Uluwatu Sunset & Kecak Dance

Visit the far south of Bali for sunset, and one of Bali's spectacular dance performances. The Kecak Dance (pronounced Ke-chack) is one of Bali's most colourful and liveliest dances.

In the afternoon visit Pura Luhur Uluwatu, undoubtedly the regions most illustrious temple. Perched 250 feet above the water, it’s a perfect vantage point to the beach below – one of Bali’s best surfing beaches.

Watch the huge waves roll in from the Indian Ocean and crash against the cliffs – and keep an eye out for monkeys.

The Kecak dance is one of the most famous of Bali’s many dances and is unusual because it has no musical accompaniment. The rhythm of the dance is produced by the chanting 'monkey' chorus, a troupe of over 150 bare-chested men, making a synchronized "chak-achak-achak" clicking sounds while swaying their bodies and waving their hands. The ‘Kecak’ name comes from the chanting noise of "Cak-cak-cak"

The dance is played in five acts and lasts roughly 45 minutes and is taken from the Hindu epic Ramayana, which tells the story of Prince Rama and his rescue of Princess Sita, who has been kidnapped by the evil King of Lanka.

The Beach

Jimbaran's beach is a long stretch of golden sand running south from the airport sweeping towards the cliffs of the limestone plateau of the southern tip of Bali.

The beach is quiet here as this area is a fishing village and the locals don't permit hawkers on the beach.

The sea is calm here as Jimbaran Bay is protected by an off-shore reef. It's possible to go surfing here but the breaks are off-shore by the reef so it's not ideal for beginners.

The sunsets of course are spectacular.

Although the airport is visible in the distance, aircraft don't fly overhead and can only be heard if you listen really carefully!

Dining

There's not a lot in the way of dining in Jimbaran outside the hotels apart from local places.

The exception to this is the wonderful seafood bbq restaurants which are set up every evening on the beach around sunset. These simple toes in the sand establishments bbq seafood by weight and are a great place to sample Jimbaran's excellent and very fresh seafood.

Nightlife

Jimbaran is not at all the place to go for nightlife but Kuta is only 15-minutes away by taxi and you can certainly party all night in Kuta. Seminyak is about 30 minutes by taxi and has Bali's trendiest nightlife.

Visit Ubud

A day trip to Ubud is a must for those not staying overnight in Ubud. Ubud is Bali's cultural capital, home to artists and the venue for Bali's famous dances and also one of the most stirkingly beautiful areas of Bali, with deep river valleys and lush green rice paddies. Only an hour or so from Jimbaran, a day tour to Ubud is a great way to experience something of Bali's unique culture.
