This itinerary offers a great value bush and beach break, with an East African safari in the Selous National Park, followed by a few nights to enjoy the beautiful and exotic island of Zanzibar.

Begin this safari and beach holiday in the remote and wonderful Selous Game Reserve, located in the south of Tanzania.

The Selous offers a unique experience in East Africa as guests can not only enjoy open sided 4x4 game drives, but also guided walking safaris and some really amazing boating safaris on the Rufiji River, which is the life blood of the Selous.

From the Selous, it’s a quick and scenic ‘hopper’ flight to Zanzibar  for time to relax in a boutique beach hotel in Zanzibar.

Travelling times are quick between each location which means more downtime wherever you chose to stay.

This itinerary is perfect for first time safari-goers and makes for an excellent short break, with more than a touch of the exotic.

Day 1: Fly UK to Dar es Salaam

Overnight flight from UK to Dar es Salaam.

Day 2: Selous Game Reserve

On arrival into Dar es Salaam, transfer to your onward safari flight to the Selous.

By 11.15 in the morning, you will be on safari. Your guide will meet you and drive you to your chosen camp, with wildlife viewing on the way.

Lunch in camp followed by an afternoon game drive, walking safari or boat safari.

Overnight Selous Game Reserve. Full Board basis.

Days 3-4: Selous Game Reserve

Enjoy a morning game drive, returning for breakfast around 9:30.

Relax in camp until lunch and around 3 pm enjoy an afternoon safari activity until around sunset.

Selous Game Reserve

Selous Game Reserve in the south of Tanzania is Africa's largest game reserve and is a great option for those looking to combine a Tanzania safari with a Zanzibar beach holiday or honeymoon - the perfect bush and beach holiday combination.

Tanzania's largest river, the Rufiji splits Selous into two areas, with the much smaller northern area home to virtually all of the safari camps.

Accessed via a 45-minute flight from Dar es Salaam, Selous Game Reserve only has a handful of small safari camps and is a much quieter option in comparison to the busier northern safari circuit.

North East Zanzibar

Northeastern Zanzibar is the coastal region of the island stretching South-eastwards from Nungwi and Kendwa as far as the mangroves of Chwaka Bay.

This is a region of traditional Zanzibari fishing villages dotted along long stretches of beautiful palm fringed sandy beach fringed by a coral reef and lapped by the warm, clear turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

Boutique hotels along this stretch of Zanzibar include the luxury Matemwe Retreat and Kasha Boutique Hotel.

Honeymooners are attracted by the tranquil beaches, clear water and the handful of romantic boutique hotels.

Zanzibar - North

The northern tip of Zanzibar is home to the busiest beach resorts in Zanzibar, centred on the traditional dhow manufacturing village of Nungwi which has a beautiful beach lined with casuarina and palm trees.

This is Zanzibar at it's busiest and there is now a considerable number of larger resort hotels, predominantly geared towards Italian tourists. 4 km south of Nungwi is the quieter village of Kendwa which has a lovely beach and fewer resorts.

Things do get a little lively here in the evenings with some beach barbeques and beach parties on the full moon.

Nevertheless there are a couple of great boutique hotels in northern Zanzibar offering a more tranquil experience.
