Minority Experience

This short tour from Hoi An is a great way to get off the beaten track in Vietnam and experience hilltribe culture which is a total contrast to the Vietnam of the coastal regions.

Depart Hoi An and head up into the hills towards the border with Laos. Visit a Cham Temple and bases from the French and American wars.

Spend two nights in a comfortable lodge in a hilltribe village with activities in and around the village included.

This short tour is ideal for those who want to experience another side of Vietnam, especially for those who don't have the time to head to the far north of Vietnam.

Day One: Hoi An - Bho Hoong

Leaving Hoi An and head to a 1,000 year old Cham temple as well as some former US and French bases from the French and American wars.

From here wind upwards into the mountains through the tea plantations, home to the Co Tu minority.

Visit a tea plantation before a visit to see one of the few remaining Co Tu woodcarvers and his family.

Experience a home cooked lunch in their house before continuing the journey deep in to the mountains.

This area is very isolated and the culture and traditions remain largely untouched, making this remote and staggeringly beautiful region home to one of the most authentic hill tribes to remain in Vietnam.

The next stop is Bho Hoong, a traditional Co Tu village and home to Bho Hoong Bungalows.

A light village walk, guided by a local resident, offers an insight into the village. After the walk, enjoy time to enjoy a refreshing dip in the river.

Dinner in the evening is a BBQ by the river (in the summer time), followed by a traditional dance performance and a chance to interact with the villagers, gaining more insight into their rich culture.

Overnight: Bho Hoong Bungalows.

Meals: All meals included.

Day Two: Bho Hoong

In the morning, wake up to the sounds of the village coming to life. Enjoy breakfast and a hot cup of coffee as the morning activities of the Co Tu begin.

After breakfast, you can take a full day trek to mountain waterfalls and explore parts of Ho Chi Minh Trail system by foot.

If that is not for you, a mountain bike ride through the countryside and villages is also an option.

If heading out on the road is more your style, then a visit will be made to another ethnic minority town, visiting small villages along the way exploring and enjoying local food, learning about the differences of each village and culture from one village to the next.

Or you can simply spend the day in the village relaxing in the river!

In the evening, enjoy a superb dinner of Co Tu traditional dishes and a traditional music performance from the men of the village, allowing you to enjoy their stories and learn more about their culture.

Overnight: Bho Hoong Bungalows.

Meals: All meals included.

Day Three: Bho Hoong - Hoi An

On the third day, bid farewell to your hosts and head towards the Ho Chi Minh trail, stopping to enjoy the brocade weavers, a craft the Co Tu are famous for.

Then embark on the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail, through lush forests and past jaw-dropping views of the central Vietnam Mountains.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any more beautiful, arrive at a waterfall tucked alongside a towering peak for a picnic lunch.

In the afternoon, descend back down toward the coast, stopping along the way to explore historic sites and places of interest, before heading east to Hoi An and back to your chosen hotel or the airport for your onward flight.

Is this a Private Tour or a Group Tour?

All of our tours are private tailor made itineraries, customised for you - we can amend things to entirely suit you.

You will have your own private car, driver and guide on excursions.

What are the departure dates?

Let us know your preferred dates of travel and we will find the best and most suitable flights to fit your itinerary.

As this is a private tour, there are no set departure dates.

Which Airlines do you use?

We work with all the major airlines flying to this part of the world.

Typically for Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific would be airlines we most often use.

However, just let us know your preferred airline if you have one. We can organise flights from any regional destination in the UK.

Vietnam Airlines fly directly to both Hanoi and Saigon from the UK.

Which Hotels do you use?

We're careful with our choice of hotels, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.

We specialise in boutique hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller hotels where we think these will be suitable.

We keep on top of hotel developments in Indochina from our office in Vietnam and regularly inspect the hotels we use.

Do you cater for Solo Travellers?

Yes, we have many solo travellers, and Vietnam is a very safe, friendly and welcoming destinations for those travelling alone.

River cruises on the Mekong are a popular option for solo travellers, especially with Pandaw Cruises who offer no Single Supplements on many departures.

How long have you been organising holidays to Indochina?

We've been organising tailor made holidays to Vietnam for over 10 years.

Our team has a wealth of combined experience in the industry and our Director has been involved in organising holidays to Vietnam since the early 1990's.

Our partners on the ground in Indochina have over 20 years experience in operating there.

They understand the region extremely well and have a strong infrastructure of staff, guides and vehicles.

We've had the same partnership in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for over 10 years.

How does your office in Vietnam help?

We have our own staff in Saigon which helps in many ways with our customers in Vietnam and South East Asia.

It helps us to keep on top of any new hotel and travel developments in the region and forge stronger relationships with hotels and other partners.

We regularly do our own inspections of hotels and destinations in the region.

Should our clients need any assistance during a trip, we always have at least one of our own staff on the same time zone, and we're open 7 days a week in Saigon.

Bho Hoong Bungalows

Bho Hoong Bungalows are located in the mountains of Central Vietnam, on the way to the Lao border, within relatively easy reach from Hoi An and provide a fantastic way to experience an authentic hilltribe village in Vietnam.

Enjoy an overnight or two night stay and experience ethnic minority life in Vietnam, a world away from life on the central coast of Vietnam.

Bungalows themselves are surprisingly comfortable with smart bathrooms, comfortable mattresses and quality linen.

Each of the 5 stilted bungalows has been lovingly carved, woven and painted by local craftsmen.

All bungalows have their own private balcony overlooking the peaceful Kon River.
