Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai is Thailand’s first and oldest national park, located just two hours’ drive to the north east of Bangkok.

Khao Yai National Park, covers over 2,000 sq. km of protected land including rain forests and grasslands, and is part of a much larger forest complex spread along the rugged Dong Phayayen, a World Heritage Natural Site.

It's home to over 3,000 species plants, 66 species of wild animals including elephant, gibbon, macaque, sambar deer and crocodile as well as an array of fascinating reptile and bird species such as the Giant Hornbill.

There are plentiful opportunities for getting up close to nature, cooling down near refreshing waterfalls, taking in the fresh air, experiencing the panoramic views at the mountain peak and if you're lucky spotting some wild animals.

This 3-day journey from Bangkok offers a glimpse into this beautiful national park with some easy walking, a night safari and a visit to spectacular Haew Suwat Waterfall.

Day 1: Khao Yai National Park

You'll be collected from your hotel in Bangkok at around 7:30 by your guide and transferred by a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to Khao Yai National Park.

You'll have a briefing about the national park and the guide will lead you to where the trail begins.

Enjoy a  mid-morning trek to the national park’s largest and highest (150 m) waterfall ‘Haew Narok’.

The trail is also a great place to spot birds, lizards, macaques and possibly elephants.

Visit the next trail, known as ‘Loneliness Cliff, where you will have vistas over the distant mountains in Prachinburi province.

Visit Haew Suwat Waterfall, made famous in the movie 'The Beach'.

Enjoy a set lunch in a restaurant nearby the waterfall.

After relaxing by the fresh stream, continue with a 3 km walk to Pha Kluay Mai Waterfall which zigzags down a 10-metre cliff.

In March and April, it's festooned with wild orchid blossoms. On the way, you may spot crocodiles that inhabit the river along the trail.

Drive back to your chosen hotel in Khao Yai for check-in.

In the evening, join an open-topped pick-up truck fitted with a powerful spotlight for picking out nocturnal creatures such as Deer, Civets, Owls, Porcupines and Snakes.

Binturongs, Small Cats, Elephants and Slow Loris are occasionally also spotted.

Overnight Khao Yai. Breakfast & lunch included.

Day 2: Khao Yai National Park

After breakfast at the hotel, drive into the national park.

On the way, make a stop at ‘Km. 30 Viewpoint’ and admire the view over the forested mountains which reach up to the green scenic valley in a far distance.

Begin a 3.3 km trek (easy going walk) through the grassland forest to Nong Pak Chi Wildlife Observation Tower, which offers a clear visibility 360-degree view with good possibilities to see some mammals and birds.

Your lunch is served at the local restaurant.

During the late afternoon, drive to a local Thai Buddhist cave temple ‘Wat Tham Sila Thong’ where Buddhist monks practice meditation.

Continue onto the 'Bat Cave' and wait for millions of bats to swarm out in the sky and start their daily feeding migration at sunset.

A long cloud of bats can be seen out from the cave for hours - a really spectacular sight. At the end of this natural show you will be transferred back to your hotel in Khao Yai.

Overnight Khao Yai. Breakfast & lunch included.

Day 3: Khao Yai National Park - Bangkok

If you wish you can relax for a while before transferring back to Bangkok. Alternatively opt to go on a winery tour as below (additional cost).

Start the day early and hop on the winery tour at PB Wine Valley (formerly known as Khao Yai Winery); the oldest and largest vineyard in Khao Yai.

The guide will lead you through vineyards stretching across 1,000 acres of land with a variety of grapes and other fruit orchards; such as dragon fruit, passion fruit, mangoes and Japanese Melons.

Additionally, there are colourful seasonal flower gardens, which create big patches of vibrant colours - perfect for photos.

Visit the wine tasting and education centre and learn about grape harvesting and wine making techniques along with some wine tasting.

Your western set lunch will be served at the Great Hornbill Grill restaurant with a glass of wine.

Afterwards return to your hotel in Bangkok or to your next destination.

Breakfast included.

We work with all the major airlines flying to Thailand.

Typically for Thailand, Thai Airways, EVA Air, British Airways or Singapore Airlines would be airlines we most often use as well as Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways.

However, just let us know your preferred airline if you have one. We can organise flights from any regional destination in the UK.

Thai Airways, EVA Air and British Airways fly directly to Bangkok.

Which Hotels do you use?

We're careful with our choice of hotels, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.

We specialise in boutique hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller hotels where we think these will be suitable.

We keep on top of hotel developments in Thailand from our office in Vietnam and regularly inspect the hotels we use.

Khao Yai has a decent choice of hotels which are excellent value for money.

Do you cater for Solo Travellers?

Yes, we have many solo travellers, and Thailand is a safe, friendly and welcoming destinations for those travelling alone.

How long have you been organising holidays to Thailand?

We've been organising tailor made holidays to Thailand for over 10 years.

Our team has a wealth of combined experience in the industry and our Director has been involved in organising holidays to Thailand since the early 1990's.

Our partners on the ground in Thailand have over 30 years experience in operating there.

They understand the country inside out and have a strong infrastructure of staff, guides and vehicles.

We've had the same partnership in Thailand for over 10 years.

How does your office in Vietnam help?

We have our own staff in Saigon which helps in many ways with our customers in Thailand and South East Asia.

It helps us to keep on top of any new hotel and travel developments in the region and forge stronger relationships with hotels and other partners.

We regularly do our own inspections of hotels and destinations in the region.

Should our clients need any assistance during a trip, we always have at least one of our own staff on the same time zone, and we're open 7 days a week in Saigon.
