Ionian Islands

The most northerly Ionian island, Corfu is green, quite traditional and offers beaches, verdant countryside and the sophistication of Corfu town.

The old town of Corfu is just spectacular, magical, with tall Italian architectural monuments, the sea walls and endless narrow alleys, deeply reminiscent of the older Venetian influence. With so many beautiful and varied beaches in Corfu awarded for their beauty and the cleanliness of their waters, it is almost impossible to choose the best

The setting for Louis de Bernières’ fabulous novel Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Kefallonia, is well known for its rugged scenery, friendly locals, a certain rural charm, and some of the best beaches in the whole of Greece.

Zakynthos (also known as Zante) is the southernmost and third largest of the Ionian Islands and is situated south of Kefalonia and west of Peloponnese.

Lefkada meanwhile is one of the most enchanting and beautiful Greek islands combining a green landscape with clear blue, clean beaches. It is one of the seven islands of the Ionian Sea and is unique because it is connected with the rest of Greece by means of a bridge.

Corfu

Situated just off Greece’s northwest coast in the Ionian Sea, the cosmopolitan island of Corfu is among the most beautiful of all the Greek islands.

It is most famous for its emerald mountains, sun-baked olive groves, and crystal-clear waters lapping the rugged coastline.

Visitors can explore the maze of narrow cobblestoned lanes in the Venetian old quarter of Corfu Town; discover the picturesque cottages covered in wisteria, bougainvillaea, jacaranda and roses scattered around the island; and enjoy the many delightful beaches.

Don’t miss the opportunity to trace the steps of the famous author, Gerald Durrell, who spent a few years of his childhood exploring the beauty and wildlife of this enchanting island in his widely acclaimed book: My Family and Other Animals.

Zakynthos (Zante)

Located in the Ionian Sea, the Greek island of Zakynthos is the third largest in the Ionian Archipelago. Dubbed ‘The flower of the east’, the island is known for its exquisite natural beauty, dramatic landscapes and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

Visitors can enjoy swimming and a variety of watersports at the beautiful beaches of Agios Nikolaos, Alykanas and Tsilivi.

The undeniable highlight of the island is its infamous 1980 shipwreck, tucked away on the spectacular Navagio Beach, a picturesque and secluded cove encircled by impressive towering cliffs and only accessible by boat.

Don’t miss the beautiful ‘Blue Caves’, cut into the cliffs at Cape Skinari. Spend a leisurely afternoon taking in a public concert at the enormous historic Solomos Square, or meander along the charming waterfront.

Kephalonia

Located west of Greece’s mainland in the Ionian Sea, the island of Cephalonia, also called Kefalonia, is the largest in the Ionian Archipelago.

This spectacular island features turquoise waters, sleepy sun-bleached villages, and beaches to explore for days.

Visitors can look forward to a variety of wonderful activities including: visiting the Agios Georgios Kastro, a 16th-century Venetian fortress; discovering the crystalline waters of Myrtos Beach, said to be one of the most spectacular shores in Greece; and exploring the Moni Agiou Gerasimou, a monastery in Kefalonia.

Lefkada

The magnificent Greek island of Lefkada dots the Ionian Sea. It features spectacular beaches sparkling azure bays, and charming seaside villages.

Easily accessible, the island is connected to the mainland by a causeway. Visitors can discover the traditional villages that are scattered along the east coast and explore the beautiful west coast beaches including Porto Katsiki and Egremni known for their dramatic cliffs meeting crystal-clear turquoise waters.

Soak up the breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, visit the beaches of Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki which feature the best surfing spots on the island and relax on Porto Katsiki, the most famous beach on Lefkada.

Other popular activities include: snorkelling, diving, windsurfing, hiking, biking and swimming, to name a few. Adventure lovers can’t miss the opportunity to take a tandem paragliding flight for a bird’s eye view.

Paxos

Paxi or Paxos Island is part of the Paxoi Island Group, which is the smallest island group in the beautiful Ionian Islands of Greece.

The island is famous for its exquisite beaches, the gorgeously photogenic port town of Gaios, and exotic natural scenery.

Spend leisurely days on one of several white-sanded shores, lapped by perfect, emerald waters, and backed by lush jungle.

Stroll through the colourful neoclassical buildings and fascinating museums in the traditional villages, and watch the sunset with a cocktail in hand from the wonderful promenades.

The island is a favourite among yachters, who can enjoy excellent conditions and facilities, creating a chic atmosphere here.

Nature lovers will delight in the chance to explore around 40 nearby sea caves, numerous stunning hiking trails, and visit numerous surrounding islets.
