Rufiji River Camp
Rufiji River Camp is a superb value for money safari camp in Tanzania’s Selous area and enjoys an enviable location high up on the banks of the Great Rufiji River on the border of the Selous National Park.
Built by local craftsmen, Rufiji River Camp combines Makuti palm roofs with Selous sourced paving stones and farmed hard woods to create a beautiful and comfortable accommodation from which to enjoy the Selous Game Reserve.
Rufiji River Camp’s tents are all set underneath permanent thatched roofs with huge verandas offering views across the Rufiji River.
Spaced along the river bank, each of Rufiji River Camp’s 11 Classic Tents features an en-suite bathroom, with solar heated water.
Rufuji River Camp also offers 2 Two-tent suites which are ideal for families.
Rufiji River Camp has a small swimming pool overlooking the river and a restaurant/bar area.
What’s so Special?
The location offers spectacular sunset views, to the background of grunting hippos and a plethora of bird song.
Selous is home to a third of Tanzania's elephant and two thirds of the Hunting Dog population. The population of Dogs peaks in September and October and packs of up to 56 Dogs have been spotted in the Reserve.
The Rufiji River is home to plenty of hippo and croc, and the Reserve is home to large numbers of Buffalo, Lion as well as a great many antelope species.
Bear in Mind
Selous Game Reserve is best visited between the months of June and February. The camp is seasonal and closes at the end of March through to the 1st June.
The dry season is from June to end October November time and during this period the park dries up and the temperatures increase until the rains break.
The rain is heavy but short lived with wonderful clear skies following a downpour. The river fills up and birdlife is supplemented by migrant species.
