Under the magnificent shade trees, on the banks of a seasonal river in the remote southern sector of the Ruaha National Park, Jongomero is gloriously remote and isolated.

As such, a stay at Jongomero is quite a different experience from staying in one of the busier camps in the heart of the Serengeti. This is wild and remote Africa.

With 70 km to the nearest camp, Jongomero is enchantingly secluded from the well-worn safari trail.  Game viewing here is far more exclusive and guests can indulge in the luxury of solitude.

Jongomero is set amongst a rugged landscape of undulating hills, rocky outcrops, and a horizon studded with the imposing silhouettes of the iconic baobab.

Blending in beautifully with its surroundings, the camp is tucked below a dappled riverine canopy on the banks of the Jongomero sand river, a natural pathway for animals in search of water.

Accommodation at Jongomero consists of 8 large and well-appointed tented suites, built on raised wooden platforms, under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda overlooking the riverbed.

What’s so Special?

For those looking for an authentic African adventure, a visit to Ruaha National Park is one of the best safari destinations in Africa; no other park in Tanzania epitomises the definition of "wild Africa" quite like Ruaha.

Bear in Mind

This corner of Ruaha formerly bordered a hunting block, which unsurprisingly made animals very skittish. In 2008 Ruaha National Park was extended, resulting in a much more settled animal population. Game is nowadays far more relaxed around safari vehicles.
