Coconut Lagoon
Set by picturesque Vemband Lake and accessible only by water, Coconut lagoon is part of the CGH Earth group of hotels, where the emphasis is always on immersion in the local culture, ecology and environment.
Water and history are the defining elements at Coconut Lagoon, which is criss-crossed by shimmering canals and is built around a historic mansion.
To build the resort, village craftspeople were invited to restore the work of their forefathers and to create an experience of ecological living true to the spirit of ancient Malabar.
The resort offers a really great atmosphere because of these local touches - a gleaming of brass, a slash of cast iron, a polished wooden pillar, the dark timbers of the buildings. Rooms are local Tharavadu style.
What's so Special?
One of the best ways to enjoy the lake is to take a sunset cruise, an hour-long idyll with flute accompaniment! Walks, fishing, reading, punting on the lake – there is plenty to do at Coconut Lagoon.
Arrival at Coconut Lagoon is via wooden boat and a lovely ride across the lake.
Reception is in a 19th century mansion transported from a local village, and the theme of sympathetic restoration continues throughout the hotel, from the carved woods of the ceilings, to the brass-work on the doors.
Heritage Bungalow
There are 27 Heritage Bungalows with a private sit out and a partly open-to-sky bathroom.
All these rooms are twin bedded. One cottage has specially been designed for those physically challenged; and is a wheel chair friendly room with no steps, railings in the bathroom etc.
