The Danna Langkawi
The Danna is a boutique-style resort in Langkawi offering a colonial-heritage style experience with a good mix of the modern and Malay touches thrown in.
Langkawi’s Danna is at the larger scale of resorts we normally feature, but we do love the blend of colonial and modern and the resort still maintains a more intimate feel.
125 rooms are set in a 4 storey building overlooking a large 3-tiered swimming pool by a white sand beach fringing a peaceful bay.
Rooms at the Danna are typified by four poster beds, wooden floors, plush rugs, rich fabrics, antique style furniture, Malay handicrafts and soft lighting. The feel is warm, subtle and tropical.
Choose between colonial style rooms in the main wing of the hotel and the recently built private villas.
What’s so Special?
The British colonial heritage style is at the heart of the Danna’s design and ethos. It’s the combination of the colonial era elegance with the modern features though which we think makes the Danna a winner.
Plush sofas, romantic lighting, afternoon tea – we love the lounge areas at the Danna with their echoes of a bygone era.
Most resorts in Langkawi are quite isolated, but a real bonus of the Danna is the location by the Marina which means there are some great dining options right outside the hotel.
Merchant Rooms
The 44 Merchant rooms (60 to 65 sq. m) each come with a private balcony and offer Hill, Mountain or Courtyard views.
Bedrooms are elegantly furnished with wooden floors, high ceilings and plush fabrics. All offer a choice of either a four-poster king-size or twin-size beds with luxury bedding and plush pillows.
Bathrooms feature Rainforest showers and twin vanities.
Grand Merchant Rooms
There are also 24 Grand Merchant Rooms which are slightly larger (70 sq. m) and have the added advantage of a larger terrace.
Marina Rooms
The 19 Marina Rooms (65 - 75 sq. m) offer views of the marina from the private terrace or the bath.
Rooms feature four-poster King-size beds, pillow-top mattresses and a choice of foam or feather plush pillows to ensure the most comfortable night’s rest.
Viceroy Rooms
There are just 7 Viceroy Rooms.
Each room is 65 sqm in size with a four-poster king-size bed with luxury bedding and plush pillow to ensure a comfortable nights rest.
The room boasts a walk-in closet and a private balcony overlooking to beautiful marina.
All Viceroy Rooms have a Marina / Sea view.
Grand Viceroy Rooms
There are just 4 Grand Viceroy Rooms, situated on the highest floor, with great views of the bay and the sea beyond from the large private terrace furnished with sun-loungers.
All rooms have four-poster King-size beds.

The Planters
The Planter’s is the main dining room overlooking the hotel’s infinity pool and beach. Open for breakfast and dinner, savour the taste from the British Malayan and Mediterranean inspired menu. The restaurant also houses an impressive wine cellar displaying an immense collection of superior-label wines hailing from France, Italy, Australia and other New World wines.
Al Fresco
Al Fresco is situated just outside The Planter’s Restaurant, set in 5 beautiful gazebos overlooking the infinity pool and spectacular view of the beach. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, guests who prefer taking their meals here can enjoy the spectacular view of the beach, fresh clean air and vibrant sound of nature, while sampling local and European inspired dish.
Courtyard Dining
Slip back into time in gastronomic bliss for lunch, dinner or an evening cocktail at the Courtyard Dining area. Situated in the courtyard, it overlooks the fresh garden fauna and tropical forest surroundings.
Straits & Co
Strait’s & Co. Café is located on the ground floor, adjacent to Al Fresco and overlooks the marina. Enjoy the tantalising list of European snacks or partake in a ‘Tiffin Afternoon Tea’ delight, a tradition highlighting the unique marriage of distinct local ingredients and Old/New World culinary style.
The Verandah
The Verandah is located on the ground floor, facing the marina and the rainforest. An enticing mix of Malayan architectural design and British colonial style, the expansive open-plan living area and indoor and outdoor bar are the perfect setting to liven things up and enjoy cocktails once the sun has set.
