Hong Kong’s Hotel ICON opened in 2011 in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, as a teaching and research hotel, with a goal of training next generation managers whilst providing a superb value very high standard of accommodation in Hong Kong. By all accounts, the result has been an outstanding success.
Set in a 28-storey building in Kowloon, Hotel ICON’s 262 stylish rooms, including 26 suites, feature superb views of the city or Victoria Harbour, complemented by chic and stylish interiors, intelligent luxuries and modern technology. All rooms have free Wi-Fi and a free minibar.
The Icon Hotel’s location means that Nathan Road is just a very short taxi ride away or a longish walk.
The Icon is popular because it mixes fantastic service with spacious and very smart rooms, stylish restaurants and public areas which are warm, welcoming, light and airy.
The feel is quite relaxed and there seem to be fewer business people here in general creating a less hurried atmosphere.
Facilities include a nice rooftop swimming pool on the 9th floor and a spa.
What’s so Special?
High style, traditional hospitality, informality and passion combine to create a successful mix in one of Hong Kong’s most in demand hotels.
The hotel has some great design features including the spectacular vertical garden which creates a very light, green and spacious feel, in contrast to many of Hong Kong’s rather claustrophobic hotels. Modern art decorates many of the public areas.
In Hong Kong, rooms are notoriously small but at 36 square metres for the lead-in category, Hotel ICON offers both space and fantastic value for money.
Bear in Mind
True, Hotel ICON is a ‘Training’ Hotel but in many senses this results in a higher level of service. A stay here in no way feels like being part of a hotel training scheme – far from it.
The location isn’t perfect – it’s not on the harbour front or on Nathan Road or right in the centre of Hong Kong Island’s shopping area, but it’s not a bad location either in the University area – just a short taxi hop (quick and cheap) from Nathan Road, the MTR or the Star Ferry.

ICON 36 rooms are some of the most spacious and stylish in Hong Kong. Superbly equipped and elegantly designed, the mood is sophisticated, cool and professional. Rooms include a cleverly designed workspace and impressive entertainment system.
