Resting on a ridge amongst tall pine trees and luxuriant rainforest between Arenal Volcano and the Lake, Arenal Observatory offers stunning views of volcano and lake.

Arenal Volcano commands nearly every view from the hotel – from the panoramic windows of the restaurant to the main buildings and most of the guest rooms.

Beautiful Lake Arenal with its many little islands stretches west into the sunset.

Around the lodge are 7 miles of hiking, cycling and horse-riding trails winding through the primary and secondary rainforest surrounding the lodge, passing waterfalls and crossing open pastures.

There is plenty of wildlife here, including three kinds of monkeys, anteaters, coatis, raccoons, deer, and more than 400 species of birds – making Arenal Observatory Lodge one of the best destinations for bird watching in Costa Rica.

The lodge gardens and landscaping feature flowering plants, shrubs and trees chosen to attract wildlife, hummingbirds, brilliant butterflies and exotic birds.

There are 48 rooms at the lodge which all feature two Queen-size beds. Junior Suites are the most spacious rooms and feature large panoramic windows with Arenal views.
