The weather in Costa Rica in October is in the 'wet season' for much of the country. Rain when it occurs usually comes in the form of afternoon showers or sudden downpours.
October is a quieter month in Costa Rica and as the weather is at it's wettest for much of Costa Rica, so the number of visitors decreases.
October is the low season along the Pacific Coast, Monteverde and the interior of Costa Rica and can affect wildlife viewing. This is the time of year that Humpback Whales come to give birth and nurture their young in Golfo Dulce.
On the Caribbean side however, September and October are amongst the driest months.
Dirt roads can be impassable in parts of the country although surfing conditions on the Pacific Coast are excellent.
Being close to the equator, Costa Rica enjoys 12 hours of daylight throughout the year, with sun rising and setting just before 6 am and 6 pm.
