Cape Town & Safari Family Holiday

Madikwe

Madikwe

This two-centre South Africa family holiday combines a week in the beautiful city of Cape Town with a 3-night family safari in the malaria-free Madikwe Private Game Reserve.

Cape Town has so much to attract families with children of all ages, such as cable car trips up Table Mountain, viewing the penguin colonies, taking a boat trip to Robben Island or even going shark cage ‘diving’.

There are a handful of good hotels for families in Cape Town including some great luxury self-catering apartments on the V&A Waterfront development where food markets, shopping malls, supermarkets and over 100 restaurants are right on the doorstep. This serves as the perfect base for exploring the Cape.

After Cape Town, fly to Johannesburg, and board a special scheduled safari charter flight to the Madikwe Private Game Reserve for 3 days in this superb malaria-free game viewing region of South Africa, one of the best destinations for a family safari holiday in South Africa.

Family Holidays to South Africa

South Africa offers the best malaria-free safaris and Big 5 safari experiences in Africa.

Combining a safari holiday with other iconic places to visit such as Cape Town and the Garden Route, makes for a varied family holiday, where animals and safari vehicles are just one part of a varied and exciting trip.

South Africa is arguably the best value for money destination for a family holiday to Africa, with a great variety in standards of accommodation to suit all budgets.

Family Safari Holidays

A South Africa family safari holiday can truly be one of those great family experiences which can open the eyes of children of any age.

A South Africa family safari can be a brilliant bringing together of a family on a holiday which can include some great adventures:

  • Seeing & discovering amazing wildlife
  • Game drives in open topped game vehicles
  • Hearing lions roar at night
  • Looking for animal tracks
  • Flying in small safari planes
  • Experiencing new landscapes
  • Camping (in luxury) out in the bush
  • Sitting around the campfire at night
  • New cultural experiences

Planning your South Africa family holiday

A safari in South Africa can offer a huge learning experience for children and also a chance to see how lives are lived in other parts of the world.

There are some key ingredients which need to be considered when planning a family safari holiday to South Africa:

  • Ages and interests of the children
  • Ease of travel to and from destination
  • The duration of time spent on safari versus other areas of interest
  • Specialist interests of any family members
  • Time of year you wish to travel on safari
  • Vaccinations or malaria precautions
  • Budget

Those are some of the factors we take into account when planning your South Africa family safari.

Several of our team are parents, and as such we understand the importance of getting the trip balance just right.

When planning your family holiday we can go over these pointers so we can tailor a trip for you which suits your personal interests and requirements.

Child ages

Bear in mind that some areas of South Africa, notably the Kruger have risks of malaria and for that reason alone, the Kruger isn't really suitable for toddlers.

Child policies vary from camp to camp, although many of the more remote bush style camps don't accept younger children because of the open nature of the camps and the risks from wildlife.

We are able to recommend camps and lodges suitable for your ages of children and your previous experiences, if any, of family safari holidays.
