Savanna Private Game Reserve
Savanna Lodge is an exclusive and rather unique luxury lodge in the Sabi Sand Private Reserve.
Game viewing takes place in specially designed open sided 4x4 Land Cruisers where you will have a game ranger who drives the vehicle as well as a tracker who sits up front.
Savanna Lodge also offer exhilerating guided bush walks with an armed ranger.
Nine magnificent suites each offer spacious and luxurious accomodation.
Seven of the suites have tented roofs and all blend into the bush. The style is a blend of old world colonial features and modern conveniences.
What's so Special?
Savanna Lodge is in the southern Sabi Sands and lies in an area supremely rich in the "Big Five", in Leopard especially.
Savanna is very focused on Game viewing. Unlike many other camps in the Kruger, game drives aren't ruled by the kitchen (i.e. guests aren't rushed back from a game drive for a set dining time).
It is not unusual to see all the Big Five: Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino in one game drive and get really close to these amazing animals.
Savanna Lodge is run by a supremely close knit team of staff, who help makes Savanna such a special Sabi Sands Bush Camp.
There are three types of suite categories at Savanna Lodge
Luxury Suites
There are 4 Luxury Suites under canvas which nestle under indigenous trees which attract a variety of birds.
The rooms are separated from neighbouring rooms by natural hedge rows offering privacy from neighbours.
The bedrooms have draped ceilings, similar to a luxurious bedouin style tent, filled with old world style furniture, comfy chairs and fabulously comfortable beds.
Bathrooms have free-standing bath-tubs, double vanities and separate indoor and outdoor showers.
Private decks feature sun-loungers where guests can sit back and look down towards the open bush on the horizon.
Executive Suites
There are 3 Executive Suites which are larger and more spacious than the Luxury Suites.
Perhaps the nicest thing about the Executive Suites is the private plunge pools and the views of smaller individual water holes at the ends of each garden.
The bathrooms are bigger with double showers and larger indoor cosy sitting areas.
Savanna Suite
The Savanna Suite is a luxurious home away from home, built under thatch with two large beautifully furnished bedrooms either side of an inter-connecting lounge.
Each room enjoys its own giant sized en-suite bathroom each with a free-standing claw bath tub, double shower, double vanities and outdoor shower.
The bedrooms have glass doors leading onto a deck with a plunge pool overlooking a waterhole.
Lounge areas offers comfortable sofas, TV with DVD player and a little cosy reading area by the fireplace.
Candlelit dinners can be prepared on the patio and there is a small attached fully operational kitchen.
This Suite is absolutely ideal for families with children or couples travelling together.
Guests in the Savanna Suite also get a private safari vehicle with tracker and ranger for the duration of the stay.
Lodge
The main lodge is built using local African materials: wood, canvas and overhanging thatch.
The public lounge area features comfy sofas, a library and local African games and leads out onto a spacious patio area with views directly across the gardens towards the main pool area and a water hole at the end of the gardens.
The water hole attracts all kinds of wildlife, but especially elephant who love to come and drink here.
Bar & Lounge
The bar area to the side of the lounge area is where guests congregate after game drives and before evening meals. Upstairs is a view loft with birds eye views over the gardens leading to the main waterhole.
This area is a lovely place to relax in the afternoons where guests can read, play board games or use the Wi-Fi.
Dining
Gourmet dining is an essential part of the safari experience.
Breakfasts consist of full English fare plus fresh fruits and continental options too.
An innovative lunch is often served on the outdoor patio, weather permitting, followed by afternoon tea before heading out on your afternoon/evening game drive.
Savanna also offers a unique dining location in one of the original old Selati Railway line dining carriages which used to run through the bushveld in colonial times.
Three-course dining takes place here, offering a wonderful evening dining, whisking diners to a bygone era - it's fabulous!
