Abaca Boutique Resort

Abaca Boutique Resort, Mactan Island is one of the most exclusive boutique resorts in the Philippines, located on the tiny beautiful central Philippines Island of Mactan, just off Cebu.

Abaca Boutique Resort is a world-class tropical hideaway with just 9 rooms, offering tranquility and the feel of a private residence in a lush tropical oceanfront retreat.

The 6 Deluxe Suites and 3 expansive Villas at Abaca Boutique Resort, the work of local designers, all offer a rich tropical ambience with dark wood, stone and ethnic touches.

The style blends tropical warmth with contemporary cool. Two villas have private plunge-pools and the third offers ocean views.

Abaca Boutique Resort is the smallest luxury boutique resort in the Philippines and promises space, privacy and tranquility, with the benefit of the resort spa and restaurant at hand.

The 30-metre black-tiled infinity pool is gorgeous and has reclining in-water seats. Thatched cabanas with daybeds also offer the perfect location for lazing and taking in the views.

Enjoy a morning snorkelling in the Gilutongan Marine Sanctuary before relaxing with a private and romantic island beach picnic on Pandanon Island – not a bad way to spend the day. Trips around Cebu also make for interesting excursions.

What’s so Special?

The Mactan Island location is ideal for flights into and out of Cebu, which means not having to fly via Manila.

Abaca is very tranquil, with just 11 rooms. The black tiled infinity pool provides superb views across the channel and lazing in one of the shaded cabanas is a very pleasant way to pass the day.

The restaurant at Abaca was here before the hotel and is very well regarded locally – so expect a high standard of cuisine, and lavish breakfasts.

The service receives very good feedback, especially the butler service, which includes a meet and greet at the airport.

Bear in mind

Abaca isn’t for those looking for an ideal beach, as there isn’t really a beach at all. The seafront location is great and the service top-notch, but for those who need to feel sand between their toes – this isn’t the one.

‘Abaca’ is a local plant, a member of the banana family, in case you were wondering.

Deluxe Suites

There are just 6 Deluxe Suites (65 – 75 sq. m.) at Abaca, each offering a classic and elegant interior, finished with warm, dark woods and eclectic Asian & tropical furnishings.

Copper lighting and antique furniture complement the wood and stone architectural designs, which showcase local Filipino designers.

Spa bathrooms feature pedestal bathtubs and separate rainforest showers. Laura Ashley bath towels and Abaca’s botanical based toiletries add to the luxurious feel.

Beds are feather-topped with high thread-count linen and 100% goose down and hypoallergenic pillows.

Panoramic ocean views are offered from private terraces or gardens.

Suites come in 3 types. Two Master Oceanfront Suites (65 sq. m.) are right on the oceanfront with private terraces.

Two Poolside Oceanfront Suites are slightly larger (75 sq. m.) and are also right on the oceanfront, and feature a separate daybed so can accommodate an extra person.

Two Penthouse Oceanfront Suites (70 sq. m.) are also right on the oceanfront and can accommodate up to 3 guests.

The flat-bread pizzas are excellent and indicative of the quality of more complex dishes.
