Mary Anne Cruise

 Classic Sailing - Galapagos Cruise

The Mary Anne sailing yacht is an iconic Galapagos yacht, claiming to be the only small ship in the Galapagos that can sail by wind power alone – and the Mary Anne certainly is a beautiful sight with sails fully hoisted.

With so many options available for a Small ship cruise in the Galapagos, choosing the right Galapagos Cruise can be a little bit bewildering but here are my top reasons for choosing a Mary Anne Cruise in the Galapagos.

 Under Sail in the Galapagos

The sails are hoisted at least once on every cruise on the Mary Anne. Cruising through the Galapagos Islands under full sail, with no engine noise is a wonderful experience – it couldn’t feel much different from being on a larger Galapagos Cruise boat.

Of course, without the engine noise, dolphins and whales are often attracted to the boat. You may be lucky enough to see a beautiful whale shark or eagle rays close to the boat.

I was lucky enough myself to see a whale shark in the Galapagos on my last visit and I can tell you - there can't be many more beautiful sights in all of the oceans.

No Single Supplements

That’s right – the Mary Anne has six single cabins without a supplement being charged! It’s hard to find that on other Galapagos Cruise options which makes the Mary Anne a superb option for single travellers going to the Galapagos.

 Smooth Sailing

The 65-metre long Mary Anne has a steel hull, deep draft and 3 tall masts making it one of the most stable small ship cruisers in the Galapagos.

Although there are only a few open water crossings on a Galapagos Cruise, the stability of the Mary Anne is a blessing for those like me, shall we say 'sensitive to the ocean swells'.

 Cruise the Galapagos in Comfort

The SS Mary Anne was one of the pioneering boats Cruising the Galapagos and remains one of the most comfortable ways to cruise the Galapagos.

The yacht feels really spacious and being outside on the wooden deck offers a real sense of freedom. Inside, the Mary Anne's dining room and library are popular spaces to relax on board.

Dining is inspired by local cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood.

Of course, the crew and the guides on the Mary Anne are what make this one of the very Best Galapagos Cruise experiences - we get constantly high praise for the crew and the guides - and having a good Naturalist on board as a guide is so important in the Galapagos.

 Great Inclusions

All meals and shore excursions with a certified guide are included on a Mary Anne Galapagos Cruise as well as the use of kayaks and snorkelling gear. I'd consider taking a wetsuit or diving top though if you have one as the water can be cool.

Two Itineraries - East or West

There is a choice of two 7 night Galapagos Cruise itineraries on a Mary Anne Galapagos Cruise.

The Western Galapagos Cruise includes the island of Fernandina and the Shield Volcanoes of Isabella Island alongside it’s rich marine life.

The Eastern Galapagos Cruise itinerary is more focused on the older islands of the Galapagos with their unique flora and fauna.

West or East, the Mary Anne offers a unique and unforgettable way of cruising the Galapagos.
