South Korea & Japan
South Korea & Japan
This South Korea and Japan holiday combines the highlights of both countries, travelling from Seoul through some of Korea’s most historic regions before continuing to Kyoto, Mount Fuji and Tokyo.
Begin in Seoul, South Korea’s vibrant capital, where modern districts, royal palaces, markets and traditional neighbourhoods sit side by side.
From Seoul, travel south to Songnisan National Park, with a visit to the Folk Village at Yongin and time at Beopjusa Temple. Continue to Gyeongju, one of Korea’s most important historic cities, where two nights allow time to explore its temples, tombs and cultural heritage.
Travel on to Busan for a night by the coast, with time to enjoy the city before flying to Osaka and continuing to Kyoto, Japan’s cultural capital.
After four nights in Kyoto, travel by rail to Hakone for views of Mount Fuji and a chance to experience one of Japan’s most scenic areas.
The journey finishes in Tokyo, with time to discover the city’s mix of modern neighbourhoods, historic temples, gardens and excellent food.

Is this a private or group tour?
All of our South Korea & Japan holidays are private, tailor-made itineraries - customised entirely for you. This trip combines time in Seoul and other parts of South Korea with key highlights in Japan, plus flights, accommodation, rail travel and transfers.
We can of course adjust the pace, route and balance between the two countries to suit your plans.
How easy is it to combine South Korea and Japan?
Very straightforward. There are regular direct flights between Seoul and major Japanese cities such as Tokyo and Osaka, making it an easy and logical combination.
We’ll plan the route carefully so the journey between the two countries feels smooth and well-paced.
What are the departure dates?
As this is a private trip, there are no fixed departure dates - we work around your preferred travel dates and find the best flights to match.
Spring and autumn are usually the best times to visit both countries, but we’re happy to advise depending on your priorities.
Which hotels do you use?
We use a mix of well-located city hotels and smaller boutique properties where appropriate, chosen for comfort, location and ease of travel.
- Hotels in both Japan and South Korea are typically modern, clean and efficient
- Rooms can be compact, particularly in Tokyo and Seoul
- Location is important - being close to key transport hubs makes a big difference
- We can of course upgrade hotels or suggest alternatives based on your preferences
Do I need a visa for Japan or South Korea?
UK passport holders do not currently need a visa for short stays in either Japan or South Korea, although entry requirements can change.
We’ll confirm the latest requirements with you before you travel.
Is there a big cultural difference between the two?
Both countries are modern, safe and easy to travel around, but they each have a distinct character.
Japan tends to feel more traditional and structured, while South Korea is often more fast-paced and contemporary. Visiting both gives a really interesting contrast.
Is this trip expensive?
Costs vary depending on flights, hotels and travel dates, but combining the two countries can offer good value when planned carefully.
- South Korea is often slightly more affordable for hotels and dining
- Japan can be excellent value for transport and everyday meals
- Where costs add up: peak seasons, boutique hotels and privately guided excursions
