Isandlwana Lodge
Isandlwana Lodge is carved into the iNyoni rock overlooking Mount Isandlwana, the site of the historic Anglo-Zulu war.
A stay at Isandlwana Lodge is a unique experience and offers a great insight into colourful Zulu culture and the dramatic history of the battlefields.
Isandlwana Lodge is within driving distance of many of the regions game reserves and the lodge also offers horse riding, birding tours and fugitive’s trail walks.
Isandlwana Lodge features twelve luxury rooms, beautifully decorated in a mixture of traditional and modern styles. All rooms at Isandlwana face the historic and scenically beautiful Isandlwana plain with a view of the mountain.
Resident historian Rob Gerrard or one of his associates conducts tours of the Zulu Battlefield sites of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift and other Anglo Zulu/Anglo Boer war sites.
Isandlwana Lodge has a swimming pool built amongst the rocks and an extensive library with plenty of reading material on the Battlefields.
Other activities at Isandlwana Lodge include walking trails, horse riding, birding tours, photographic safaris, and the ever popular Zulu Village Safari where guests can experience the life and customs of the Zulu people in an authentic setting.
There are over 300 species of birds during the year in this area.
What’s so Special?
Staying at Isandlwana Lodge really is staying in the midst of history as the hotel is located just below where the Zulu commander stood during the Battle of Isandlwana on the 22nd of January 1879.
In addition to Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, tours to other battlefield sites such as Blood River, Hlobane, Ulundi, Majuba, Ladysmith, Spioenkop and Kambula are also offered.
The view of the Isandlwana Mountain and the valley below from every vantage point in the lodge is truly magnificent. Enjoy stunning views from the crisp early light of a sparkling Zulu dawn to the splendour of the African sunset.
Bear in Mind
Children are welcome at Isandlwana Lodge. There is a fenced area around the house, which provides space for playing out of doors.
A minimum two-night stay allows the Battlefield Tours to be done in the right order. Ideally, arrive by 4 pm for a relaxing late afternoon and evening, with a tour of Isandlwana the following morning and Rorke’s Drift in the afternoon.
Those staying longer may wish to split the tours and do Isandlwana one morning with Rorke’s Drift the following afternoon.
Rooms
Isandlwana Lodge has twelve luxury en-suite rooms, each tastefully decorated in a mixture of traditional and modern styles.
All rooms face the historic and scenically beautiful Isandlwana plain with a view of the mountain.
Lodge Guesthouse
Isandlwana Lodge also has a Guesthouse, which offers economical accommodation. The house can be rented as a three-bedroom, two-bath house or as two separate units.
The larger side has two twin-bedded rooms; a large lounge with dining area, a full kitchen and a bath with shower and sleeps four people.
The smaller unit has a twin bedroom with sitting room, small kitchen and a full bath.
Both units are equipped for self-catering. Reservations for meals may be made at the lodge, space permitting.
