Camp Kipwe
With sweeping views across the Aba Huab valley, Camp Kipwe is an intimate but spacious camp, which seems to blend and melt into the surrounding landscape.
An inviting lounge area, where birds fly in to enjoy the water seeping from the rocks, a refreshing swimming pool nestled in the rocks and a scattering of bungalows complete this eco friendly camp.
The surrounding space and endless views of Damaraland beckon exploration and most guests enjoy an early morning game drive in search of elusive desert dwelling elephants.
Other activities include hiking in the ancient surroundings of the Aba Huab River or travelling back in time to see the cave paintings at Twyfelfontein, Namibia’s first World Heritage Site.
There are just nine rooms at Camp Kipwe and one sprawling, thatched roof suite full of unexpected luxuries, surprising pops of color and spectacular views.
What’s so Special?
The location is magical and it really does appear as if rocks have tumbled down the hill to reveal this gem of a camp.
Organic and understated, the rooms at Camp Kipwe are like extensions of the rocks themselves. Inside the dome shaped space, it feels like entering a secluded cave and becoming one with the landscape.
Rooms
There are nine rooms at Camp Kipwe and one sprawling, thatched roof suite full of unexpected luxuries, surprising pops of color and spectacular views.
Organic and understated, the rooms at Camp Kipwe are like extensions of the rocks themselves. Inside the dome shaped space, you feel like entering a secluded cave and becoming one with the landscape.
Natural touches – rocks embedded in the floor, animals carved into the wood, mimicking the area’s famous engravings – add to the unique sense of place found at Camp Kipwe.
Nestled against the boulders, the partially open, outdoor bathrooms provide a bit of whimsy in the bush, while a small deck extends the living space, connecting guests to the riverbed and the views beyond.
Standard Rooms
Standard rooms are twin bedded but can be converted to a Doubles. All rooms have air-con and en-suite facilities (outdoor shower and ablutions).
Mini Suite
The Mini-Suite is a luxury, thatched suite with a lounge equipped with air-con, satellite TV, en-suite bathroom, laundry service and a minibar.
Activities
Early morning game drives across the plains and along the Aba Huab River offer a chance to explore the surprising variety of life found in this arid environment.
Springbok, gemsbok, jackal, and rare desert dwelling elephants make this area their home.
The plains are dotted with endemic welwitschia mirabilis, an ancient plant, which embodies the timelessness of the desert.
For those who visit nearby Twyfelfontein, Namibia’s first World Heritage Site, the sense of time is even more evident.
More than 2,500 rock engravings, dating back 6,000 years, are found on the hills, bearing testimony to our ancestors’ important connection to wildlife.
Back at Camp Kipwe, hike down the valley in the company of a local guide, or take a solitary stroll to find the camp’s plunge pool nestled amongst the rocks.
