Cambodia’s capital is often overlooked as visitors head straight to Angkor Wat in the north.

Phnom Penh is well worth a visit however as the city has some lively markets, impressive temples and a great little museum which will elucidate much about the magnificent monuments further north.

On a more sobering note, the Killing Fields memorial is a moving testament to more recent events and an important place to visit to really understand modern day Cambodia.

Phnom Penh is essential on any tour of Cambodia - don't miss it.

Overnight Phnom Penh.

Day Two:

A Full Day Tour to discover lively and energetic Phnom Penh where graceful tree-lined boulevards and riverfront promenades are reminders of bygone eras; today they teem with life and activity.

Visit the Temple of Wat Phnom, the birthplace of Phnom Penh. Afterwards, see the splendor of Cambodia's royal heritage at Phnom Penh’s Royal Palace, still the official Royal Residence.

The adjacent Silver Pagoda and the National Museum are the next stops.

In the afternoon, learn about a chapter from Cambodia's more recent, tragic, past at Tuol Sleng (Museum of Genocide). Formerly a High School, in 1975, this became the interrogation and torture facility for the Khmer Rouge regime.

Kept largely unchanged, this prison now showcases photographs and exhibits about the thousands of victims that passed through these doors - only seven of whom came out alive.

Finally, explore the modern-day city, visiting one of Phnom Penh's two great markets, the Central Market, or the sprawling Russian Market, a labyrinth of stalls selling all kinds of items.

Return to your hotel for overnight.

Day Three:

Just outside Phnom Penh, in a peaceful rural setting, the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek provide a stark reminder of the atrocities under the Pol Pot regime.

Thousands of people were killed here between the years of 1975 and 1978 and buried in mass graves.

After the morning visit, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in Phnom Penh to explore independently, visit the National Museum, explore the markets or perhaps enjoy a spa treatment.

Sunset is a great time of day for a stroll by the riverside promenade.

Overnight Phnom Penh.

Day Four:
