Urbn Hotel Shanghai is a vibrant and chic boutique hotel in Shanghai’s French concession, reflecting the character of Shanghai and offering great value for this kind of boutique hotel.

Built in the shell of a 1970’s factory, Urbn Hotel Shanghai is a hotel with a difference, claiming to be China’s first carbon-neutral hotel. This trendy and hip Shanghai boutique hotel has just 26 rooms.
The design is cool and contemporary with strong local influence in the materials and décor.
Quirky touches such as the old suitcases utilised as the ‘wall’ behind reception lend atmosphere to a hotel that is something of an anomaly in Shanghai – a hotel in a converted building recycling old suitcases for a reception in a city soaring into the 21st century.
What’s so Special?
The owners have done a great job of converting this urban space, utilising 100% reclaimed Shanghai hardwoods and bricks. The hotel has an agreement with Climate Bridge to be China’s first ever Carbon Neutral hotel.
The ‘Social’ doubles as a games and movie projecting room. We really love the courtyard lounge and bar on the ground floor – a great spot for relaxing and socialising and meeting new friends.
Get under the skin of Shanghai with tai chi and yoga classes, cycling and walking tours, Chinese cooking classes and basic Mandarin Chinese lessons at Urbn.

Urbn Shanghai has just 26 rooms, each rich in texture and minimal in nature. Contemporary design is complimented by natural materials; wood floors, linen curtains and rustic silks in shades of cream, coffee and beige, create a relaxing ambiance.
Studio Lounge Rooms
Studio Lounge Rooms are compact & open-plan. The King-size bed sits on a low platform in the centre of the room and a freestanding tub and wrap around sofa helps to truly utilize the room.
Bathrooms are spacious with large slate-tiled showers for two.
Atrium Rooms
Glass bricks the length of the wall splash the room with natural light – the king-size bed sits on a low platform in the centre of the room. There is a wrap around sofa and living area and an iPod dock.

Garden View Rooms
Garden View rooms are ultra cool. Lie back on your king-size bed, look over your sunken wrap-around lounge area through the wall of windows and feel close to nature and the beautifully landscaped garden below.

Courtyard Suite
The Courtyard Suite features a private outdoor courtyard, spa bath and separate treatment area.
Bedrooms feature a king-size bed on a raised platform, and a sunken lounge.

Downstairs with David Laris
URBN’s signature restaurant, ‘Downstairs with David Laris’ offers organic and natural, healthy, farm-fresh cuisine in line with the hotel’s core concept of sustainability. Downstairs is the only carbon-neutral restaurant in Shanghai.
Downstairs is a very social venue and is popular at lunch and dinner.
In addition to Downstairs with David Laris, there is a rooftop bar ‘Upstairs’ and a private lounge called ‘The social’.
Sustainability lies at the core of the philosophy. 80% of food is organic produce, locally sourced.
Urbn Hotel has a nice private courtyard garden and offers cycle hire which is great for cycling around the tree-lined streets of the French Concession.
