The Linden Centre
Opened in 2008, The Linden Centre is the creation of Brian and Jeanee Linden, Sinophiles and art lovers whose dream was to create an avenue dedicated to learning, sharing, and exploring the culture and history of China.
Xizhou is a traditional village and the Linden Centre an authentically restored traditional and luxurious Courtyard home.
The Linden Centre, located in the village of Xizhou in Yunnan, is the result, a hotel-cum-cultural centre dedicated to preserving and sharing the rural cultural heritage of Asia’s timeless villages. As such, The Linden Centre offers guests a true immersion into authentic China.
Excursions to a mountainside Taoist temple or to organic farming operations are offered.
The centre has a Zen garden, a Chinese cultural library, and numerous priceless artefacts, creating a memorable and relaxing base.
The complex is graced with four exceptional courtyards and gardens. Lush water ponds, mature bamboo, and blooming flowers and greenery abound, with indigenous centuries-old statues accenting cherished spots throughout the compound.
What’s so Special?
A stay at the Linden Centre is a chance to experience something of the real rural China, staying in an ancient Bai village.
The experiential and learning aspect is key to a stay here.
Normally a program of activities and excursions is discussed on arrival, according to each guests particular interests and motivations.
Bear in mind
Guests usually stay for a minimum of three nights and often longer.
Stays can be tailor-made to include activities such as a morning Tai Chi session led by a local master, shopping for indigenous textiles from the village family who spun and dyed the cloth, or a facilitated discussion with local business owners on the evolving regional economy.
