COMO Maalifushi

COMO Maalifushi is the only resort in the Maldives' Thaa Atoll, nestled in the archipelago's southern reaches.

With overwater villas and beach suites, COMO Maalifushi is the ultimate away-from-it-all destination for families, couples, surfers and divers.

Accommodation reflects local traditions and design is pared back to reflect the island's calming setting.

Overwater suites and villas are built off wooden walkways that stand above the shallow lagoon.

Each has its own private terrace for slipping into the sea, while garden rooms benefit from being set in the island's tropical heart.

The views are consistently spectacular: either lush gardens, where children can play, or directly out to the watery expanse.

COMO is renowned for it's COMO Shambhala Retreat. The Spa has 8 double treatment pavilions over the water and there is a superb range of treatments and facilities

What's so Special?

COMO Maalifushi is the latest luxury Maldives Resort from COMO Hotels and Resorts.

COMO is famous for its Spa and the resort offers excellent wellness facilities - some of the best you will find anywhere.

COMO Maalifushi is a great option for surfers and divers.

There are some excellent breaks nearby as well as a string of uninhabited private islands, where there are seasonal hammerhead and manta ray sightings.

Garden Rooms

Garden Rooms are located in the centre of the island, shaded by the resort’s tropical greenery and just a short foot-in-the-sand walk to all the resort’s amenities including the COMO Shambhala Retreat and restaurants.

They have an open-plan feel, and come with an outdoor deck and furniture for al fresco dining.

Garden Rooms interconnecting with each other are available on request.

Madi

Madi’ (meaning Manta Ray in the local Dhivehi language) takes its inspiration from the region’s fresh, tropical produce and abundant seafood.

The food is light and full of flavour. The menu boasts a range of local, Mediterranean and international dishes served throughout the day, from breakfast to late evening.

Madi also holds three themed nights each week. There's the 'Middle Eastern Feast' night on Monday, showcasing a culinary journey through the region's most popular dishes.

On Wednesday night the 'Taste of the Indian Ocean' explores the area's characteristic sweet, sour hot and salty flavours, with traditional Maldivian Boduberu dancing and drumming.

The week ends with a seafood barbeque on Friday night, dining beneath the stars to the sound of live music from local musicians.

Please note theme nights are subject to change at any time.

Tai

‘Tai’ (Japanese for red snapper), which is a celebratory fish in Japanese culture, showcases sustainable caught seafood from the Indian Ocean.

There is also a cocktail bar offering stunning views of the Maldivian sunset.

Tai is open six days a week except Fridays, when a seafood BBQ is offered on the beach between Madi and Thila.

Thila

Thila is named after rock formations in the Maldives that are covered with abundant marine life.

As a place to congregate, it inspires this informal Maldives restaurant and pool bar where guests can come to chill out.

Food at Thila is easy going and family-friendly, with salads, freshly cooked seafood and pizzas.

Laid-back music, pool tables and an open-air pool bar with ocean views make Thila the relaxed and vibrant heart of island life on COMO Maalifushi.

Watersports

COMO Maalifushi offers motorised water sports activities.

Guests can zip around the lagoon, experiencing the heart-pounding fun of wakeboarding, waterskiing and tubing.

Non-motorised watersports include kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans.

Light Tackle & Fly Fishing

There are fishing options to the north and south of COMO Maalifushi, available from January to April.

There are expansive, unspoilt flats at both sites, as well as a drop off where trevally and red snapper can be picked up with light tackle.

Guided Kayak Snorkel Adventure

Enhance your snorkel experience with a guided kayak tour around COMO Maalifushi’s house reef.

An experienced guide will lead you on a 20-minute paddle to the edge of the reef’s drop-off.

Here you will snorkel along the house reef, where colourful marine life such as Parrotfish, Angelfish and Surgeonfish are a common sight.

Occasionally you may spot Eagle Rays or Green Turtles gliding by.

Whale Shark Snorkel

COMO's boat will take you from the resort to find the largest fish in the sea, where you can choose to join them under the waves or simply watch them from the deck.

The Maldives’ clear waters allow for an aquarium-like view of the gentle giants.

Sailing

The consistent sea breezes along COMO Maalifushi’s lagoon are ideal for sailing.

COMO's TOPCAT K1 and K3 catamarans are lots of fun to sail.

Book a sailing lesson to learn what it takes to operate a sailboat safely — these one-hour lessons are tailored to your ability level.

Surfing

Several Maldivian atolls have coastlines that capture swells from numerous directions, giving consistently excellent surfing conditions.

COMO Maalifushi, has partnered with luxury surf outfitters, Tropicsurf, for exciting adventures and teaching for all levels.

The ever-popular Farms area is a great starting point, with a contoured reef-corner that delivers mechanical-shaped waves ideal for many different styles of surfing.

For guests who want to see it all, COMO’s Surf Pass allows guests to embark on an expedition to the finest breaks and best-kept secrets of the region.

Tropicsurf guides will escort you to secluded surfing at three atolls — The ‘Surf Machines’ at Laamu, ‘Farms’ at Thaa and the ‘Kasabu’ at Dhaalu.

A full time Tropicsurf guide is based exclusively at COMO Maalifushi from April to October.

Guests can learn from scratch or simply brush-up on their techniques with a guide, who can assess your performance according to a 100 point-skill progression and tailor your path to rapid improvement.

Which Airlines do you use?

We work with all the major airlines flying to the Maldives.

Typically for the Maldives we will use British Airways for direct flights to the Maldives between November and March.

Sri Lankan Airlines is also a great option for flights to the Maldives, especially of course if combining the Maldives with a Sri Lanka tour.

The flying time for direct flights is around 10 hours, making the Maldives a little shorter flying time than going to South East Asia.

We also commonly use Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha and Etihad via Abu Dhabi. These all allow stopover options in the Arabian Gulf to create a multi-centre holiday.

Regional connections from across the UK are available.

Which Hotels do you use?

We're careful with our choice of resorts in the Maldives, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.

We specialise in boutique & luxury hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller luxury hotels where we think these will be suitable.

We understand that choosing a resort in the Maldives can be a bit bewildering, especially as they all look so similar!

That's where our expertise can help - it's always useful to speak to someone who's been to lots of different islands in the Maldives.

Do I need a visa for the Maldives?

If you're travelling on British Passports, no visa is required for stays of up to a month.

Please double check before travel however as visa requirements are subject to change at any time.

How long have you been organising holidays to the Maldives?

We've been organising tailor made holidays to the Maldives since 2009.

We use a very reliable local partner in the Maldives for transfers and to assist our clients in the Maldives. They are a family owned company who are one of the most established and respected local travel companies.

We keep up to date with developments in the Maldives with regular visits and through our local contacts.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The driest time of year to visit the Maldives is normally between November and March. This is high season in the Maldives and you can expect dry and settled conditions most of the time.

What board basis should I choose in the Maldives?

You'll find there is a wide range of options in the Maldives, from b&b, Half and Full Board, All Inclusive and variations on All Inclusive options.

Because of the isolated location, dining in the Maldives is expensive by almost any standard. Bear this in mind when comparing meal options.

How do I get to my resort in the Maldives?

Some resorts in the Maldives can be reached by speedboat from Male. This makes for a convenient and easy transfer. You'll be met at the airport on arrival and taken on foot the short distance to your boat transfer.

Seaplane transfers in the Maldives are used for islands further afield. These are usually in 18-seater De Havilland Twin Otters which fly in daylight hours only, departing from the seaplane port next to the International Airport.
