Baros Maldives

Baros Maldives is one of the best value luxury boutique resorts in the Maldives, a tiny speck of an island amidst a shallow lagoon fringed by a fantastic house reef, with some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Madives.

Baros is only 20-minutes by speedboat from Male, in the north Male Atoll and offers 75 spacious thatch-roofed villas with huge bathrooms and elegant interiors – some of the best luxury villas in the Maldives.

Baros has 45 beachside and 30 Over Water Villas, each constructed with sandstone and timber, elegantly furnished and offering lots of natural light through large windows.

Private sundecks add to the indoor-outdoor living and all offer direct access to the lagoon.

Facilities at Baros include a luxury spa, swimming pool and of course plenty of water sports, including snorkelling and over 30 excellent dive spots nearby, many of which are exclusive to Baros. Manta Ray sightings are almost guaranteed.

Baros has a Marine Centre with resident marine biologist and Baros was one of the first resorts in the Maldives to take reef conservation seriously.

Divers Baros Maldives has officially been certified as the first resort Eco-Dive Centre in the Maldives

What’s so Special?

Baros is a picture perfect Maldives island.

The Lighthouse Restaurant at Baros is very special – a real dining institution in the Maldives.

Transfers to and from Baros operate 24-7 and the 20-minute transfer means that time in the resort is maximised and arrival and departure are stress-free.

Bear in mind

Baros is perfect for couples and as a Maldives honeymoon resort, and as such Baros Maldives doesn’t accommodate children under 8 years old.

Baros is 40-years old and was the third resort to open in the Maldives back in 1973. At the time it took 3 hours to get to the resort by Dhoni and Male had no paved roads.

Inter-island communication was by morse code! How things have changed – including Baros itself of course which bears little resemblance to the original resort.

Deluxe Villas

The 24 popular Deluxe Villas (89 sq. m.) are set in flower glades by the beach and exemplify the essence of the Maldives with their tropical grace and simplicity.

These unique Maldives island resort villas provide an incredible setting for a perfect Maldives honeymoon. Every villa is elegantly furnished, with teakwood floors, designer lighting and exotic open-air bathroom in a sandstone-walled tropical garden.

Each villa has a spacious shaded veranda with direct access to the beach and lagoon.

Bathrooms have freestanding bathtubs and separate showers.

Features in all villas:

  • Air con & ceiling fan
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • LCD TV with Satellite channels
  • DVD
  • CD
  • Bose surround sound system
  • iPod dock
  • Minibar
  • Wine chiller
  • Tea and coffee making facilities
  • Espresso machine
  • IDD phone
  • Hairdryer
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Safe
  • Yoga mats

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse Restaurant is the hallmark of Baros Maldives, an overwater pavilion with a white sail pinnacle roof that serves as an iconic beacon visible long before the island comes into view. It has been acclaimed as one of the best restaurants in the Maldives.

For guests it is a truly unique experience to sit on The Lighthouse Deck above the Indian Ocean while rays and fishes swim below, enjoying the sublime, classical tropical ambience while sampling some beautiful food. At The Lighthouse, every meal is one to remember.

The Cayenne

With palm thatched gazebos for dining above the lagoon, The Cayenne is the place for a light lunch from a wood-fired pizza oven as well as salads, wraps, paninis, and for combination platters of grills of the world: Teppanyaki and Tandoori. There is even a dedicated Satay Bar open during the day.

The Cayenne features the best steaks from all over the world as well as fish freshly caught by local fishermen, all cooked to perfection by master chefs in the open kitchen.

Lime

Located right by the lagoon, the contemporarily styled Lime Restaurant offers Asian influenced cuisine served to guests relaxing at tables on a spacious deck above the waves.

Lime is open for a superb buffet breakfast with action stations and sparkling wine, and for salads, snacks, tea, lunch, dinner and family favourites throughout the day.

The Lighthouse Lounge

The Lounge on the gallery above the Lighthouse Restaurant is best place on Baros Maldives for a sun-downer in an elegant atmosphere.

The view from the gallery over the lagoon, where rays and baby sharks glide past as the sun sets and stars appear, is complemented by seamless service of drinks and snacks.

There is a wide choice of champagnes and cocktails, served with canapés, and the finest wines. Every Friday the Lighthouse Lounge features live jazz and blues.

Sails

Sails is situated in the heart of Baros, in The Palm Garden, shaded by venerable palm trees creating a unique tropical atmosphere.

There are daybeds and hammocks for relaxing while enjoying the best view of the lagoon and taking high tea or sipping signature cocktails, juice or premium beers as time drifts by.

In the evening, the romantically lit open-sided cocktail bar has a wide choice of aperitifs, spirits, wine and liqueurs. Twice a week local bands play music for easy listening.

Dining Experiences

Although Baros Maldives is isolated in the Indian Ocean, it is well known as one of the ultimate Maldives islands for Luxury Dining.

At Baros Maldives, guests are not limited to standard menus and meal times. There are several culinary experiences to enjoy both on and off shore for a romantic dining interlude.

These include: In-Villa Dining, Island Dining, Sandbank breakfast, picnic or dinner and a Dhoni Dinner.

Which Airlines do you use?

We work with all the major airlines flying to the Maldives.

Typically for the Maldives we will use British Airways for direct flights to the Maldives between November and March.

Sri Lankan Airlines is also a great option for flights to the Maldives, especially of course if combining the Maldives with a Sri Lanka tour.

The flying time for direct flights is around 10 hours, making the Maldives a little shorter flying time than going to South East Asia.

We also commonly use Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha and Etihad via Abu Dhabi. These all allow stopover options in the Arabian Gulf to create a multi-centre holiday.

Regional connections from across the UK are available.

Which Hotels do you use?

We're careful with our choice of resorts in the Maldives, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.

We specialise in boutique & luxury hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller luxury hotels where we think these will be suitable.

We understand that choosing a resort in the Maldives can be a bit bewildering, especially as they all look so similar!

That's where our expertise can help - it's always useful to speak to someone who's been to lots of different islands in the Maldives.

Do I need a visa for the Maldives?

If you're travelling on British Passports, no visa is required for stays of up to a month.

Please double check before travel however as visa requirements are subject to change at any time.

How long have you been organising holidays to the Maldives?

We've been organising tailor made holidays to the Maldives since 2009.

We use a very reliable local partner in the Maldives for transfers and to assist our clients in the Maldives. They are a family owned company who are one of the most established and respected local travel companies.

We keep up to date with developments in the Maldives with regular visits and through our local contacts.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The driest time of year to visit the Maldives is normally between November and March. This is high season in the Maldives and you can expect dry and settled conditions most of the time.

What board basis should I choose in the Maldives?

You'll find there is a wide range of options in the Maldives, from b&b, Half and Full Board, All Inclusive and variations on All Inclusive options.

Because of the isolated location, dining in the Maldives is expensive by almost any standard. Bear this in mind when comparing meal options.

How do I get to my resort in the Maldives?

Some resorts in the Maldives can be reached by speedboat from Male. This makes for a convenient and easy transfer. You'll be met at the airport on arrival and taken on foot the short distance to your boat transfer.

Seaplane transfers in the Maldives are used for islands further afield. These are usually in 18-seater De Havilland Twin Otters which fly in daylight hours only, departing from the seaplane port next to the International Airport.
