Vietnam in May

May marks the arrival of the Southwest monsoon over most of the country.

Saigon and the southern beach resort areas will typically experience short, late afternoon downpours every other day at least. Temperatures remain constant in the high 20’s or early 30’s. This is one of the most humid times of year in the south, so be prepared to drink plenty of water.

Central Vietnam usually experiences long, sunny and cloudless days at this time of year with relatively little rain.

By May, temperatures in Hanoi have risen to average around thirty degrees. Rainfall increases from May towards the highest rainfall month in August.

Cruising on Halong Bay is beautiful at any time of year and May is no exception.

Those heading into the mountains north of Hanoi should be prepared for cold conditions at night and mild days.
