Beijing, Xian and most of northern China is in the middle of winter, with snow and freezing temperatures not uncommon. Beijing suffers from average sub-zero temperatures at this time of year.
This can be a spectacular time to visit the Great Wall and Beijing, especially with a covering of snow – but be prepared – it’s going to be very cold and windy in Beijing, even if there are clear skies.
Hotels are heated, but thick coats, hats and gloves are required for exploring.
