Begin with a superb 4 day 3 night safari in Tanzania in the Ruaha National Park, one of Tanzania's most acclaimed wildlife destinations.

From Tanzania fly down the East African coast to the Mozambican island of Pemba.

From Pemba enjoy a fully guided mobile island hopping dhow and kayak safari combined with a luxury island stay in Mozambique.

This adventurous Mozambique holiday includes 4 nights island hopping by dhow or kayak and 3 nights at the luxurious Ibo Island Lodge.

This is an ideal trip for the adventurous at heart, for adventurous families or groups of friends or even for a very special African honeymoon!

This trip can easily be combined with a few nights in Zanzibar, with a northern circuit safari in Tanzania or even with gorilla trekking in Rwanda.

Day 1: Fly from the UK to Ruaha

Overnight flight from the UK to Ruaha via Dar Es Salaam.

Day 2: Ruaha National Park

On arrival into Dar es Salaam, transfer to your onward safari flight to the Ruaha National Park.

By midday, you will be on safari. Your guide will meet you and drive you to your chosen camp, with wildlife viewing on the way.

Lunch in camp followed by an afternoon game drive, walking safari or boat safari.

Overnight Ruaha National Park. All meals & game activities included.

Days 3 - 4: Ruaha National Park

Enjoy a morning game drive, returning for breakfast around 9:30.

Relax in camp until lunch and around 3 pm enjoy an afternoon safari activity until around sunset.

Day 5: Ruaha - Pemba

Transfer to the airport and fly to Pemba, with a road transfer to Mucojo (about 3 hours) and a dhow transfer to Mogundula Island.

Mogundula Island offers excellent bird watching, pristine swimming off the sandbank beach and superb snorkeling.

The mobile camp is set under the shade of trees and you usually have this magical uninhabited island to yourself!

Enjoy a trip by dhow to the Pangane Peninsula or similar and/or Macaloe Island from the camp.

Overnight mobile camp Mogundula Island. All meals included.

Day 6: Dhow Safari – Mogundula Island to Ulumbwa

Depart Mogundula for your exploration into the Quirimbas Archipelago.

Sail into the clearest of blue water with pristine corals below to explore under snorkel.

The Ulumbwa river mouth beckons and it’s here where fascinating rural fishing villages dot the shore.

Day 7: Day trip to Matemo Island:

Turquoise clear waters and beautiful scenery awaits you en-route, but before enjoy an early morning sail up the Ulumbwa estuary viewing a variety of birds & mangroves that thrive in this area.

In the afternoon, take a tour through this fishing village. Stop on the southern tip of Matemo Island and explore this part of the island and return to the camp at Ulumbwa.

Day 8: Ulumbwa to Ibo Island

Probably the most compelling attraction in the Quirimbas, Ibo’s 200-year-old ghost town and 16th Century forts make for a fascinating journey to an era long forgotten.

Ibo Island lodge has spectacular views over the waterfront and accommodates guests in beautifully simple yet elegant rooms.

Historic colonial mansions have been stylishly renovated to accommodate the lodge with various verandas, tropical gardens and a spectacular roof top restaurant.

The emphasis at Ibo Island Lodge is on complete relaxation and a base from which to explore this fascinating island.

Day 9: Ibo Island Lodge

Enjoy a tour of historic Ibo Island.

Day 11: Ibo Island to Pemba - Dar es Salaam

An included beautiful light aircraft flight over the islands and turquoise waters transfers you to Pemba International Airport from Ibo Island Lodge.

Fly back to the UK via Dar Es Salaam.

Ibo Island Lodge offers luxurious accommodation and features three magnificently refurbished colonial-era mansions with high lofty ceilings and individually designed bedrooms.

The main building at Ibo features spacious verandahs, which are a lovely spot to enjoy a drink or just relax at any time of the day on a lounger with a book or magazine.

The gardens are a very nice feature at Ibo, as is the long infinity edged swimming pool over-looking the ocean.
