20 Degrees Sud

Small, charming and sophisticated, 20 Degrees Sud is in a category of its own in Mauritius.

One of the most luxurious and charming boutique resorts in Mauritius, 20 Degrees Sud is located in an old coconut grove bordering the water’s edge in exceptional surroundings not far from the Pointe aux Canonniers at the mouth of the beautiful bay of Grand Baie.

20 Degrees South offers elegance and intimacy in a lovely setting, with colonial-era touches and great attention to detail throughout.

Michel and Ann the on-site hosts go out of their way to ensure guests are happy.

The resort has two swimming pools, a great restaurant, small spa and a club-like ambience, which makes 20 Degrees Sud a great choice for a romantic holiday or honeymoon to Mauritius.

20 Degrees Sud is one of the smaller boutique resorts in Mauritius, with just 34 rooms, each decorated with antiques and luxurious furniture and furnishings.

Each room features a beautiful terrace overlooking the coconut grove bordering the sea.

There are three exclusive restaurants at 20 Degrees Sud, one within the hotel itself, another housed within a ruin situated on an island just off the coast and the third on a beautiful old boat renovated by the hotel: the MS Lady Lisbeth.

What’s so Special?

20 Degrees Sud isn’t ostentatious luxury but offers elegance and refinement in a boutique style resort.

20 Degrees Suds’ island restaurant is housed within a 19th century ruin: just a few tables, a magical setting on a wild beach looking out to sea within lush and protected surroundings – a special place to dine.

Bear in Mind

Charm Rooms are cosy. OK, for some, they’re a bit small (but consequently great value for those for whom a large room isn’t important).

They have Queen-size four-poster beds in the bedroom, which take up a large part of the floor area. Bear this in mind if space is important. Beachfront Rooms and Suites offer more space.

The beach at 20 Degrees Sud is on a raised terrace above the water line.

Charm Room

Although some are more modest in size, all the Charm Rooms overlook the beautiful coconut grove, which opens onto the sea.

All Charm rooms are slightly different, quite unique, but each with a great deal of character.

Bedrooms feature Queen-size beds and furniture and furnishings from the Belgian interior decorator Flamant Home Interiors.

Bathrooms feature old style claw-foot bathtubs with separate Rainforest shower and twin vanities.

Beachfront Room

These nine very beautiful waterfront rooms, five of which are located on the first floor, are bright and airy and offer a stunning view of the bay. Terraces open onto the ocean.

Beachfront Rooms feature either an outdoor Jacuzzi or a small private swimming pool.

Suite

The two Suites (including one triple), look out onto the bay in a truly, exceptional setting. They are just metres from the water and the view from their terraces is a real bonus in Mauritius.

Suites feature either an outdoor Jacuzzi or a small private swimming pool.

Austral Suite

Hotel 20 Degrees Sud has just four 'Austral Suites', each one unique inside, but all offering a generous 90 sq. m. of space.

The Austral Suites are the epitome of 20 Degrees Sud style and each is equipped with a small private plunge pool overlooking the sea (on ground floor suites) or a large Jacuzzi (on the upper storey suites).   The Suites' terraces are less than 2 metres from the water and the views create the impression of being on board a boat.

Features in all rooms:

  • Air Con
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Plasma TV with Satellite channels
  • Multimedia system giving access to more than 160 movies
  • iPod dock
  • Tea and coffee making facilities
  • Nespresso machine
  • Minibar
  • IDD phone
  • Safe

Dining

There are three exclusive restaurants at 20 Degrees Sud, one within the hotel itself, another housed within a ruin situated on an island just off the coast and the third on a beautiful old boat renovated by the hotel: the MS Lady Lisbeth.

The kitchen is directed by the talented Mauritian chef, Manolito Grosset, who gained his experience in the finest hotels of Mauritius as well as in a starred restaurant in Switzerland.

Fish such as red wrasse and sea bream are caught off the shores of the Mascarene Islands; meat is flown in from South Africa.

20 Degrees Sud's restaurant is situated just 10 metres from the sea.

Breakfast is available at any time of day, and everyday a ‘4 o’clock tea or coffee’ is served, free of charge, accompanied by delicious freshly made homemade cakes.

The hotel has an extraordinary site on Flat Island. Housed within an old ruin dating from the 19th century, now a listed building is a little restaurant fitted out in the middle of nowhere: just a few tables, a magical setting on a wild beach looking out to sea within lush and protected surroundings.

How long have you been organising holidays to Mauritius?

We've been organising tailor made holidays to Mauritius since 2009.

We use a very reliable local partner in Mauritius for our tours and transfers and to assist our clients in Mauritius. They are a family owned company who are one of the most established and respected local travel companies.

We keep up to date with developments in Mauritius with regular visits and through our local contacts.

Which Airlines do you use?

We work with all the major airlines flying to Mauritius.

Typically for Mauritius we will use British Airways for direct flights.

There are currently five-times-weekly flights from Gatwick in the winter and three flights a week in summer.

There are also four-times-weekly flights from Heathrow direct to Mauritius with Air Mauritius.

The flying time for direct flights is around 12 hours.

We also commonly use Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha and Etihad via Abu Dhabi. These all allow stopover options in the Arabian Gulf to create a multi-centre holiday.

South African Airways are another airline we frequently use for combining a safari and beach holiday to South Africa and Mauritius.

Regional connections from across the UK are available.

Which Hotels do you use?

We're careful with our choice of resorts in Mauritius, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.

We specialise in boutique & luxury hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller luxury hotels in Mauritius where we think these will be suitable.

When is the best time to visit Mauritius?

The driest time of year to visit Mauritius is normally between June and September. May to October is the dry season.

April to May and October to November can be the best value times of year to visit Mauritius as these are shoulder-season periods.

See our climate guide for more detailed weather information.

There are some local climatic conditions to consider when choosing the location for your Mauritius holiday and we will be able to advise you accordingly.

Do I need a visa for Mauritius?

If you're travelling on British Passports, no visa is required for Mauritius for stays of up to a month.

Please double check before travel however as visa requirements are subject to change at any time.

Do you offer twin or multi-centre Mauritius Holidays?

Yes - all of our Mauritius holidays are tailor made and we can put together all kinds of twin-centre Mauritius holiday combinations for you.

Amongst the most popular options for twin-centre Mauritius holidays are Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Singapore, each of which offers an exciting city to combine with your beach holiday in Mauritius.

For a wonderful safari and beach holiday we frequently combine Kenya and Mauritius or South Africa and Mauritius.

To enjoy two or more islands on an Indian Ocean holiday, it's possible to combine a Seychelles and Mauritius holiday as there are direct flights between the two countries.

For something combining touring and beach, a tour of India combined with a Mauritius beach holiday is an exciting and rarely considered option.
