Belize Coast

Although many visitors head to the Belize Cayes for a stay in a beach resort in Belize, there are also some great options for a beach holiday on Belize’s mainland.

Dangriga and Hopkins are diminutive fishing villages with some nice resort options, although the beaches are generally more picturesque on the islands.

Further south is the Peninsula at Placencia, which has some nice places to stay and a couple of very good boutique hotel options.

Inland is the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, a superb destination for hiking, nature and wildlife including ocelots and pumas and on the rare occasion, a jaguar.

Just a few miles short of the Guatemalan border is Belcampo, set in a 12,000-acre reserve a great place from which to enjoy both the sea and the jungle.

Central Coast

The Central Coast of Belize has a little bit of everything; ancient Maya monuments, British history, cultural diversity, wildlife and many rare bird species.

Get an insight into Belize’s rich cultural past, which continues to have present-day influences.

Take up the hiking challenge at Altun Ha (a Mayan site) and discover spectacular birdlife.

Enjoy a Belize City tour and see the colonial architecture and the Creole “Kriol” culture of today, and whilst you’re at it, learn a little local “Kriol” (a broken English dialect).

Journey to Belize’s former capital “Belmopan,” where the open roads lead to endless wildlife and natural wonders.

Central Coast Rural

The rural Central Coast is home to scenic villages where you might want to sample some tasty creole cuisine.

Scattered along the George Price Highway and the Philip Goldson Highway are numerous little rural villages that are anything but small in adventure.

Here, Creole culture is strong and it’s a nice chance to bask in some of the most relaxing riverside views in Belize.

South East Coast

The South East Coast is the coast with the most, a blend of culture and nature-based adventures, from the remarkable Maya Mountain Massif views to golden sandy beaches.

Placencia, Hopkins and Dangriga are a true fisherman’s village with strong cultural pride, and eco-tourism projects are strong here.

A drive down the Hummingbird Highway offers a chance to visit the world’s only jaguar preserve “Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary” or explore National Parks, such as Mayflower Bocawina and the St. Herman’s Blue Hole.

Water activities are amongst the best in Belize. Enjoy kayaking, snorkelling, diving, saltwater fly-fishing, whale shark watching and just about any other “ing” that takes place in the water!

Dangriga Town

With a population of under 12,000 people, the vibrant Garifuna culture of Dangriga offers visitors the opportunity to join in cultural dances, musical drumming and exotic foodie experiences!

While you're here, discover the preserved forests, marine tours and annual traditions, such as the November 19th re-enactment of the 1800’s Garifuna ancestors' arrival on Belize’s shores.

  • Culture Capital.
  • Visit “Why Not Island”.
  • Be sure to stop at the “Drum Of Our Father Monument”.
  • Dangriga festivities including a re-enactment of the historic Garifuna landing.

Hopkins

Friendly and welcoming, Hopkins is the cultural centre of the Garifuna community and a great place to discover Garifuna culture.

Meet local people and practice traditional drumming and dancing. Book a visit with the Lebeha Boys for a truly traditional dancing and drumming demonstration, right by the Caribbean Sea.

Here, you can meet some of the nicest people in the world, dance to the rhythms of the Garifuna's drumming, while indulging in tasty cultural foods.

In addition, over 100,000 acres of preserved jungles and rivers lay within the famous Maya Mountains and there is always Hopkins Beach for a relaxing day.

  • Feel the rhythmn with Garifuna drummers.
  • Try Garifuna dishes & drinks.
  • This calm fishing village is home to some of the best beaches in the country.
  • "Kulta Capital"

Placencia Peninsula

Shirts, shoes and worries are optional in Placencia, known locally as “Barefoot Perfect”.

Placencia Peninsula is 16 miles of golden sand, the only golden-sand beaches on mainland Belize.

After hanging out on the beach, snorkelling and scuba diving, head into town and get a feel for what a traditional Kriol (Creole) fishing village is like.

There are also village restaurants, bars and art galleries. About the only thing Placencia doesn’t offer is stress. It’s just not allowed here.

  • Take a nice long walk on the beach.
  • Take a picture with the smallest street in the world.
  • Be sure to enjoy fine dining.
  • There's a lot happening here. Don't forget to relax a little.
