Day 1: Fly UK to Quito

Fly from the UK to Quito.

On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Enjoy an afternoon walking tour in Quito’s old town, declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1978.

Visit San Francisco Church and its spectacular cobblestone square, Independence Plaza.

Take a peek inside the Presidential Palace and visit the main Cathedral.

Day 2: Otavalo

After breakfast, enjoy a morning visit to Otavalo, famous for its market selling distinctive and colourful textiles.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure in Quito.

Day 3: Quito – Coca Napo River

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a short flight to Coca.

On arrival, transfer to the dock for a motorized canoe journey down river (about 1 hour) to board the M/V Anakonda for your 7-night cruise.

Settle into your ship as she sails downstream though the lush, green beauty of the rainforest.

Enjoy an evening walk after sunset to discover the forest’s nocturnal activity and the sounds of nature.

Day 4: Border with Peru

After breakfast, enjoy a morning excursion into the tropical rainforest.

Learn about the relationship between plants and animals and Amazonia’s fascinating biodiversity.

After lunch, the M/V Anakonda navigates to one of the most pristine and little explored sections of Ecuadorian Amazonia, home to the legendary pink river dolphin, black caiman and anaconda.

You may also find river turtles, monkeys, the primitive Hoatzin, a rare bird locally known as "the Stinky Turkey".

Exploration of this flooded ecosystem is by guided canoe (a guide does the paddling).

Day 5: Villages & River Islands

After breakfast, stop at a local village and visit a school located on the banks of the Napo River.

Learn about the educational system and the lives of this remote jungle community in Ecuador.

Sail upstream, enjoy a lecture and documentary and in the afternoon explore one of the largest river islands of the Napo River.

Day 6: Limoncocha Biological Reserve – Observation Tower

After breakfast, visit an observation tower, 100-feet high, built against a giant kapok tree.

The top of the tower, looming over the treetops offers a unique perspective of the rainforest and the vastness of the Amazon Basin.

In the afternoon visit Limoncocha Biological Reserve, a fascinating protected area where more than 478 bird species and several monkey species have been recorded.

This activity will extend into the evening, when you will have a chance to spot black caiman with the help of flashlights. Return to the M/V Anakonda for dinner.

Day 7: Indillama River & Yasuni National Park

After breakfast take a tour by local kayak through one of the Napo River’s tributaries, the Indillama River, which leads to Yasuni National Park.

Here you will get the chance to spot indigenous wildlife and enjoy the hypnotic sounds of the Amazon.

Day 8: The Pañacocha Biological Corridor

After breakfast, continue downstream to the Pañayacu River Delta and take a canoe trip to experience the sights of this fascinating reserve.

This area of the river is home to Pink River Dolphins, Common Squirrel Monkeys and much more.

Pañacocha (Piranha Lake, in Quechua) is an eco-system flooded by white waters.

The rivers and lakes here are the perfect habitat for Piranha, as well as Water Monkey Fish (Arawana) and White Caiman.

After a refreshing swim (for the courageous!), enjoy a delicious Amazon-style BBQ meal and refreshing drinks at a nearby camp site.

In the afternoon head out on exploratory trails into the rainforest, and return on board for dinner.

Day 9: Parrot’s Clay Licks

After breakfast visit one of the most amazing spectacles in this region of Amazonia - a parrot lick.

Unique pools of mud become rich in minerals and attract hundreds of parrots, parakeets and amazons every day, a remarkable spectacle.

Continue to the Sani Warmi Kichwa Interpretation Centre, where a group of Kichwa women will divulge their customs and explain aspects of their cuisine and everyday life.

They have created the centre in order to showcase their culture, and it provides a unique opportunity to learn about Amazonian lifestyles along the Napo River.

You will also have the opportunity to buy crafts, local products and souvenirs if you wish.

After lunch, stop at the Yakukawsay Kichwa Interpretation Centre and end the day's activities with an interesting evening walk through the forest (depending on accessibility, river water levels and weather conditions).

Day 10: Quito

After breakfast, disembark and transfer by motorized canoe to Coca for your flight back to Quito, where you will be transferred to your hotel.

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.

Day 12: Arrive in UK

Arrive back in the UK.
