Japamala Resort

The best boutique resort on Tioman Island, and one of the most popular boutique resorts in Malaysia, Japamala is a secluded and peaceful boutique beach resort overlooking a fantastic white sand beach with a backdrop of lush jungle.

The emphasis really is on nature at Japamala as well as on great dining and a sense of escape.

Japamala is rustic eco-chic and will really suit those looking for a great beach and simple natural accommodation in an away-from-it-all location.

Japamala consists of traditional Malay villas and chalets with indoor and outdoor living. Many villas offer stunning views and all have contemporary features complementing the eco design.

Japamala is set amongst 11 acres of lush landscape criss-crossed by natural streams and backed by steep cliffs and towering boulders.

Japamala's sister hotel in Kuala Lumpur is Villa Samadhi and a stay at both hotels offers a great combination for a boutique holiday in Malaysia.

What’s so Special?

The powder fine white sand beach and the clear water around the resort are wonderful. The snorkelling is excellent and there are also day trips available including jungle treks.

Japamala takes its name from the prayer beads used for meditation, which is a fitting symbol for this resort where nature and tranquillity are the key concepts.

In the construction of Japamala no trees were cut down and no rocks were moved which means all the villas are slightly different in design.

Bear in mind

Some of the villas are set up a fairly steep hillside and offer wonderful views, but won’t suit those not able or keen for a little walk up the hill.

Treetop Chalet

Perched high above the jungle canopy, the Treetop Chalets are secluded but within an easy stroll of the beach.

These chalets offer accommodation close to nature, with the noise of the jungle, the soft rustle of windblown leaves, the chirping of crickets and birds and the foraging of wild creatures at night.

Seacliff Chalet

Traditional style and modern facilities combine in the Seacliff Chalets, which offer stunning sea views, balmy breezes and awesome sunsets.

Each chalet is unique and offers an unobstructed sea view even from the shower room.

Jungle Sarang Villa

“Sarang” means “Nest” in Malay, and these Jungle Sarangs are tucked away on the lower area of the resort.

Villas feature an indoor rainforest shower and open-air bathtub with the rainforest as the backdrop, hidden enough to allow total privacy.

Jungle Sarangs also feature a spacious private living area good for dining, sunbathing or simply relaxing.

Hillside Sarang

Hillside Sarangs are split-level rooms and are perched high on the hillside.

They feature a hydro pool, outdoor shower, timber dining deck and tanning bed plus extra treats like exclusive spa toiletries, a complete minibar with wines, champagne, flavoured teas, hot chocolate and an Espresso machine (very important!).

Features:

  • Air Con & ceiling fan
  • 21-inch TV with Satellite channels
  • DVD player
  • Coffee-making facilities
  • Minibar with wine and champagne
  • Aromatic Turndown service
  • Hairdryer
  • Spacious veranda

Tamarind Terrace

Tamarind Terrace is the sister restaurant to award-winning Tamarind Hill & Tamarind Springs in KL.

This restaurant opens onto the luxuriant rainforest in the background and the beach at its front.

The dining area is adorned with several beautifully carved stone Buddha. Thai, Indo-Chinese & Malay cuisine is served here.

Mandi Mandi Restaurant

Mandi-Mandi Restaurant is built on stilts above the sea some 100 metres from the beachfront and serves global cuisine with an Italian emphasis. Nightly BBQs are put on here in this really romantic setting.

Private dining is also available on request for romantic and special occasions.
