A highlight of Nepal, the city of Kathmandu is shrouded with air of exoticism and is a joy to wander around, people watching in Durbar Square and admiring the stupas and other local architecture.
The city has an intoxicating ambience, with medieval streets, hidden temples and fascinating street scenes - it's also a photographers dream.
Be sure also to visit Bhaktapur, just 8 miles from Kathmandu down the Kathmandu Valley, with its magnificent temples and narrow winding streets. Sadly much damage was caused by the 2015 earthquake but the city should still definitely be near the top of the list of things to see in Kathmandu.
