Salt of Palmar

Offering romance and seclusion, the Moorish style Salt of Palmar (formerly La Palmeraie) faces beautiful white sand Palmar Beach on the east coast of Mauritius.

The resort is set out a little on its own, on a rocky headland, away from the stretch of hotels at Belle Mare.

The setting is fantastic, on a headland with white sand beaches either side. The sea is protected by a reef here and is flat and calm, ideal for swimming.

Salt of Palmar Ile Maurice offers intimacy and a blend of Andalucian atmosphere and Mauritian culture alongside a high level of service in one of the best boutique resorts in Mauritius.

Salt of Palmar is quiet and on a great white sand beach. There are plenty of activities on offer for those wanting to do more than just relax.

Salt of Palmar suits families as well as couples and the hotel has a nice little Kid’s Club and safe beaches with a protected lagoon.

Golfers will be very happy here, as Salt of Palmar has privileged access to international golf courses: the Links Golf Belle Mare and 18-hole Championship courses at both Le Touessrok and the Four Seasons.

What’s so Special?

The Moorish ‘Moroccan’ style might sound out of kilter in the Indian Ocean but we love the design of the hotel.

The reef offers snorkelling and the resort runs twice-a-day glass-bottomed boat snorkelling trips over the reef.

The resort is very much focused on the local and the authentic, which we love. Have a quick look at the video below to find out more.

Bear in Mind

There are few options for dining out nearby, but the food gets very good reviews.

The swimming pool is small but the sea is perfect for swimming (and is very big!).

You’re just seconds from the pool. It’s a daily blessing.

Restaurant

Bye-bye buffet. This is fresh, local, and tasty. The hotel knows the farmers, fishermen, and growers by name. But, here, the ingredients are the stars. The herb wall and a vegetable cellar show off the bounty. In the kitchen, simple, ancient cooking methods are adhered to.

The wok, the tandoor oven and the charcoal grill are the trinity, and anything and everything is smoked to release and enhance flavour. Ingredients can be marinated for hours and slow-cooked over wood overnight.

Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Mauritian flavours all play a part, but there are no fixed menus.

Bars

On the roof. On the beach. And by the pool. Life doesn’t get more easy-going than this. Relaxing. Meeting people. Sharing stories. Sprawled on a beanbag. With the music, the drinks, and the ocean views, all three of the bars are the place to be.

How long have you been organising holidays to Mauritius?

We've been organising tailor made holidays to Mauritius since 2009.

We use a very reliable local partner in Mauritius for our tours and transfers and to assist our clients in Mauritius. They are a family owned company who are one of the most established and respected local travel companies.

We keep up to date with developments in Mauritius with regular visits and through our local contacts.

Which Airlines do you use?

We work with all the major airlines flying to Mauritius.

Typically for Mauritius we will use British Airways for direct flights.

There are currently five-times-weekly flights from Gatwick in the winter and three flights a week in summer.

There are also four-times-weekly flights from Heathrow direct to Mauritius with Air Mauritius.

The flying time for direct flights is around 12 hours.

We also commonly use Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha and Etihad via Abu Dhabi. These all allow stopover options in the Arabian Gulf to create a multi-centre holiday.

South African Airways are another airline we frequently use for combining a safari and beach holiday to South Africa and Mauritius.

Regional connections from across the UK are available.

Which Hotels do you use?

We're careful with our choice of resorts in Mauritius, but we're guided by our customers also. If you have some preferred hotels, just let us know.

We specialise in boutique & luxury hotels and so we will often suggest some of our favourite smaller luxury hotels in Mauritius where we think these will be suitable.

When is the best time to visit Mauritius?

The driest time of year to visit Mauritius is normally between June and September. May to October is the dry season.

April to May and October to November can be the best value times of year to visit Mauritius as these are shoulder-season periods.

See our climate guide for more detailed weather information.

There are some local climatic conditions to consider when choosing the location for your Mauritius holiday and we will be able to advise you accordingly.

Do I need a visa for Mauritius?

If you're travelling on British Passports, no visa is required for Mauritius for stays of up to a month.

Please double check before travel however as visa requirements are subject to change at any time.

Do you offer twin or multi-centre Mauritius Holidays?

Yes - all of our Mauritius holidays are tailor made and we can put together all kinds of twin-centre Mauritius holiday combinations for you.

Amongst the most popular options for twin-centre Mauritius holidays are Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Singapore, each of which offers an exciting city to combine with your beach holiday in Mauritius.

For a wonderful safari and beach holiday we frequently combine Kenya and Mauritius or South Africa and Mauritius.

To enjoy two or more islands on an Indian Ocean holiday, it's possible to combine a Seychelles and Mauritius holiday as there are direct flights between the two countries.

For something combining touring and beach, a tour of India combined with a Mauritius beach holiday is an exciting and rarely considered option.
