Rustic and laid back, &Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is set on a permanent channel of the magnificent Okavango Delta, adjacent to the game rich Moremi Wildlife Reserve.

Sandibe’s location offers a great mix of forest and floodplain, permanent deep water channels and several ancient baobab trees. There is wildlife here in abundance.

&Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is a stylish and intimate lodge with just eight exclusive safari cottages, each with en-suite bathroom, an outdoor shower and private game viewing decks overlooking the Santantadibe River.

Activities at Sandibe Lodge include game drives, walks and mokoro trips when flood levels are high.

Sandibe Lodge is reached by a short flight from Maun followed by a 30 minute vehicle transfer.

What’s so Special?

Game drives at Sandibe are accompanied by both a guide and a spotter, which means a good chance of spotting more elusive animals such as leopard and wild dog.

Sandibe Lodge offer great attention to detail; rooms feature books and magazines, great shower products and small decanters of amarula and sherry for nightcaps.

The location is really quite beautiful, especially the nearby lagoons, which are best explored by Mokoro in the wet season.

Sandibe Lodge is great for single travellers as a single supplement isn’t usually charged.

Bear in Mind

Rooms can be slightly dark because of the shade of the trees.

Sandibe Lodge will accept children under 12 years but they won’t be able to partake in the Game Drive activities.

&Beyond Sandibe Safari Lodge has been scheduled for an exciting rebuild and upgrade programme that will give it a brand new look.

The lodge will be temporarily closed from January to June 2014.

Chitabe Concession Wildlife

Renowned for its abundant wildlife, the Okavango Delta and the areas surrounding &Beyond Sandibe are home to a large number of species, including many predators, as well as a number of species adapted to the semi-aquatic lifestyle, such as the elegant red lechwe and shy sitatunga.

Lion prides, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog may be encountered, while families of hippo hide in the deeper channels and lagoons.

The area supports the continent’s largest surviving concentration of elephant and buffalo, while roan and sable antelope roam the open woodlands.

While lion are commonly encountered near &Beyond Sandibe, they are not the only predator found in the area.

Although predominantly nocturnal and difficult to spot, leopards are fairly common throughout the Okavango, particularly in dense riverine forest.

Apart from the more commonly encountered predators, the Okavango is also a stronghold for the endangered African wild dog, although sightings of this rare animal are relatively uncommon.

Exhibiting a fascinating social structure, wild dog live in packs led by a dominant pair with a strict social hierarchy.

One of the most common antelope in the Okavango, the red lechwe is especially adapted for the swampy conditions.

Its splayed, elongated hooves give it a sure footing in muddy conditions, allowing it to inhabit the outskirts of the permanent swamps. With an incredible wealth of species, the Okavango is also a haven for birding enthusiasts.

One of its most sought after species is the huge but elusive Pel’s fishing owl, which roosts in the densest evergreen thickets.

A quintessential African sound, the haunting call of the fish eagle can be heard echoing over the channels.
