Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, a seething metropolis of 11 million people. It can be slightly overwhelming on arrival but it’s a city with a real buzz and atmosphere....

How long to spend?

3 nights is usually enough for most people to see the sights, take in the atmosphere and do some shopping.

Where to stay?

Bangkok has several centres. Many people choose to stay by the river for great views, cooling breezes and the water taxis that buzz up and down the river. Sukhumvit Road is the place to stay to be close to a good range of shops and restaurants.

Getting around Bangkok

Bangkok is the gateway to Thailand and nearly all international flights arrive here. Bangkok has a new airport – Suvarnabhumi about 45 minutes out of town. Currently the old airport Don Muang is still open for some domestic flights.

Getting around Bangkok is far easier than it once was! The skytrain is easy to use and connects most places of interest quickly, conveniently and cheaply. Taxis are frequent and cheap, though can be slower and less easy to find during rain.
