Lombok, Bali’s neighbouring island, a 25 minute flight from Bali, differs in many respects from its more famous neighbour. Bali’s Hindu culture is absent in muslim Lombok and the atmosphere is much more low-key. Many of Lombok’s hotels are located in popular Senggigi which offers pleasant beaches and a low-key holiday base. Lombok’s Gili Isles in the north west of the island are popular for escapist retreats and for snorkelling and diving. There are a handful of excellent luxury and boutique hotels in Lombok which make a great combination with a holiday in Bali.
