The coastal Bako National Park is one of the best places in Sarawak to see the wildlife of Borneo in natural surroundings and is easily accessed from Kuching.

Only about an hour from Kuching by car and boat, the Bako National Park offers a great opportunity to see some of the wildlife of Borneo close up, including the indigenous proboscis monkeys. Silver leaf monkeys, long tail macaques, monitor lizards and various species of birds are also likely to be encountered.

Staying overnight at Bako offers the chance to experience the park in the early morning and evening, and night time walks are popular. Although we recommend an overnight trip, accommodation in the Park Chalets is fairly basic, so bear this in mind if choosing to stay overnight.
